335d I'm back gentlemen

It’s been a brief minute guys, but im back. Job changes, marital life changes, residency of state changes, but still have the OG 335d and looking to keep extending the life and making more power.

Just to give an update….running the JR 2.8 with the stepped intercooler, race pipe, swirl flap deletes, original turbos, have the OG transmission tune, but switched from Android to iPhone….so lost the login to do any updates from month one.

Originally tuned at 68k or so and now at 208k. 1st to 2nd shift is a little spongy. When I really get in it I get a fuel supply code (still running r70 pump). Perhaps a leaky boost pipe. Gone through 3 Forge boost pipes and have a dark oily stain in the garage.

Just looking to see what the wise old men recommend for the next era of the 335d beast.

I swapped to ATM intercooler in major part to get away from the stupid OEM clips on the charge pipes. Yes it is pricey and it might take a long time to get but I have had ZERO boost leaks since then.

I bought 335d and X5D intercoolers at same time with associated hoses, adapters, and clamps. That was an important box to receive!
EDIT: I went to his website and they are on pre-order. That could mean a while before it ships.

BB_cuda when you moved from stock intercooler to ATM, did you notice any change in the car's responsiveness? Particularly in low speed drivability, or tipping into the throttle pedal from low rpm.

So is the ATM intercooler at $799 that much better than the OG stepped that we were installing back in the day? I see AArod is selling an ATM boost hose that works with the stock style connections. Is it better than the Forge that I have now?

As far as r90 goes, I didn’t realize that they have skyrocketed from where they were a few years back. At the price of a rebuilt/used is it not just worth going with a new pump from Bosch for a 2005 535D?

I like the idea of a 3.1 and the better HPFP.

Used pumps are like $400-$450.

Have you done any transmission work, as far as sleeves/seals or valve body work?

The valve bodies on these suffer bore wear, the solenoids quit holding pressure as well, etc. Might want to try and get that login situated so you can look at your clutch adaptives.

You can install a Sonnax Zip kit in the valve body but that's a bandaid to the bore wear. The only solution is machining and sleeving. There's a company in Michigan that Sutphin uses, as well as a company in Oklahoma that Worldwide Specialty Parts uses for rebuilds. Both companies do machine work and also dyno their valve bodies. I couldn't afford the downtime so I bought the sutphin one and just did a direct swap.

Only downside is, with your mileage you may actually be dealing with clutch wear as well. And who knows what condition your E clutch bushing is in (also a source of internal leak on that circuit)
