Wheels catching on coilovers

Hi guys,

So my new wheels arrived today, can't wait to get them refurbed.

Issue I have is the fronts, rears fit fine but the fronts are rubbing on my coilovers...

So, I need spacers.. But I don't have much clearance on the wing so I'm reluctant to buy without knowing it will work.. Here is my clearance..

So it's currently filthy & looking sorry for itself!

I guess I could remove my helpers? But would rather not.

The wheels don't have an ET stamped on them & they have 235/35/19s on them, although these need changing so if need be I could have more stretch.

I guess 5mm spacers would be enough to bring it away, but I don't know if they will then catch the wings/sit too far out!?

Any help appreciated!

Jordan

Looking at that I would go a 5mm spacer drop a tyre size to 225 and dial in a small amount of camber to bring the wheel in slightly

or 5mm spacer and camber front a bit keeping current tyre size (and I don't mean silly camber)

Thanks guys.

I'm considering trying cheap spacers until I can get hold of hubcentrics.. Halfords do a 3 or 5mm..

http://www.halfords.com/motoring/car...mm-4-or-5-stud

Do we think the 3mm would give enough clearance so I can at least get a few miles out of the current tyres?

You wont, and cant, get hubcentrics that thin.

The hub will pertrude through the spacer allowing the wheel to still locate correctly.

this ^^

as for the space required you have to measure and assess yourself. Its difficult to tell from the pics

Just camber your fronts ever so slightly. I've had the same done on my coilovers and I'm running 10J fronts with 235/35/19!

So 3mm still catches, doubling them to 6mm still catches.

Il have to order 10mm & longer bolts, or go back to shocks & springs...

AWB, how do I go about that?

I don't understand how you fitted and used them, with a 6mm still catching.

The only way to stop them rubbing without changing spec's is to remove the helper, the spring seat will sit higher and not catch. Probably.

I'm confused, where did I say I used them?

I fitted the front, the wheel would barely spin by hand, put my hand over the wheel & felt the rim touching, so removed the fronts for OEM.. leaving the rear on the new wheels.

I'm not taking the helpers out for safety reasons.

It stops the springs staying seated, potentially a safety hazard & is an MOT failure.

I'm going to try 10mm spacers first I think.

Unless you're doing jumps, helper springs in no way effect safety, and are not an MOT failure. My GAZ coilovers weren't supplied with helper springs.

I removed the helper spring on my old coilovers(of same design as the op's) and i raised the seat up expecting it to sit at same level as before. I was wrong and had to lower the seat practically back to the same place as when the helpers were in for it to sit at the same height.

You can raise the seat the exact height of what you remove when fully compressed. The helper spring will be fully compressed when the weight of the car is on it.

From how the tire fits on there the wheel doesn't look very wide. It looks like it's either 8.5" or 9" wheel. I think you'll be fine with a 10mm spacer if you need more clearance just start adding camber. From the factory there is hardly any camber in the front compared to the rear anyways.

They are staggered but I'm going to try 10mm spacers and will get 225 tyres when they need changing (I reckon I can get 1k out of these tyres still.. If they fit!)
