I just purchased a Mini Cooper that came with one key. All I had to do was go to a BMW/Mini dealer to register my name with the vehicle. Afterwards I called the number to order another key. It was $245+tax. The dealer quoted me $350! Saved $100 by going thru the 1-800 number.

Just picked up a 335is and it came with only one Comfort Access key so I decided to give this a try. Called this morning and here is how it went:
Since the car hadn't been registered to my name with BMW yet, first they verified who I was using Experian ("which of these streets have you lived on?"... Etc...) and then asked for the last seven of the VIN to verify the car. Then they asked which key I wanted and asked why I wanted it. Then she quoted me the price ($250 plus tax) and took my credit card info. Here is where it got a bit squirrelly: my card company (Chase) has very tight Anti-Fraud guidelines so it declined my card. So she locked in my info and I said I'd call back after I talked to my card company. Called them and told them it was legit, so they reset my card. I then called BMW back and the key has been ordered. If you need a key and you're in Cali, don't hesitate to use this service while it's still in effect. The only thing I'll have to worry about now is getting the key coded to Comfort Access. I'm hoping since my car will be getting scanned and the software updated, they'll give me a break (wishful thinking), but if they won't, I'll try to get ahold of Alex@Alpine to code the key for me.

Plan on doing this by the end of the year. Here's a bit more info about the replacement:

Whoa, you can do this? I need a new spare key anyway as my battery on it died... But seriously, hook me up with this guy I'll gladly pay him got two cars without comfort access and if you can really just code it in like that I'm amazed.
Obligatory: Duck Fealerships... or are they Stealerships. Haha. Amirite guys? A-am i?

I think the car has to have Comfort Access already. I meant that he would code the Key for Comfort Access. Sorry for the confusion.
