Seal on one of the covers is not on tight. If you get in there ASAP and dry it out might still have a chance of recovery. If not might need to replace some parts. Several hundred if you find used

This. Based on what I've read from previous threads regarding this error, moisture seems to have damaged the control unit. The part number is 63-11-7-182-396. I'm not saying this will definitely fix the problem you're having but its likely, again, based on what others have reported.

For the guy with the car wash yeah you arent seal up properly and generally whatever headlight got water in it rushes to the buttom where the smc (stepper motor controller) sits. They are very very susceptible to water damage.
It also requires porogramming/encoding when replaced IIRC Not sure about the other dude but it did rain really hard here in the northeast, not sure where you are at so could be the same thing as far as water damage Even if its not water damage, 9/10 times it has always been the SMC and not the FRM, but be careful with faults since your driver side is the master and passenger side is a slave and a right SMC doesnt always mean that one is faulty. SMC requires headlights to be removed on the e9x platforms |

this all sounds above my pay grade but would hate to have the dealer hose me.

I did OSS on my headlights and after a year of condensation I got the same warning lights as you. Went through various steps like changing the ballast, then when I changed the control unit the error went away, but the light doesn't go up and down anymore, I don't know if it's because I need to code it, or if something else is damaged. Either way good luck and let us know if you solve itz

I can't remember the price on them. Haven't done them since the e9x's have been falling more and more out of warranty but 150+ sounds right for the part. If you see condensation in the head light its enough to cause the issue.
