I was planning on it this weekend but the forecast for this coming week is supposed to be 60 or close to it.... We also just had a few flakes in the air down towards Akron so probably not near what you saw up north.

Checking in after a long time...

I'm already on my snow tires. Switched to them a bit early to save some wear on the summer tires.

So if anyone is wants, I got a clean set of staggered OEM 162s wrapped in Potenza RE50A runflats with less than 1500 miles on them. I'll be posting a thread in the classifieds soon with pictures. I'm getting aftermarket wheels next summer.

I'm getting mine swapped tomorrow down in Columbus when I visit my parents this weekend. I figured this is as good a time as any, since I'll be busy until early December, and who knows how crappy the weather might get.

This is my first winter without AWD. I'm contemplating getting a beater at least for the worse days of snow.How many of you drive the Bimmer all winter long?

I drive mine all year. If there's super heavy snow you're screwed because of ground clearance issues. But, that's only happened to me once in two winters. As long as you have some good Blizzaks (I have the WS-60s), you should be fine.

I drove my old S4 last winter and broke the plastic belly pan because it plowed through snow. It was fun to see trucks spinning out of control when the slammed S4 just kept going. But snow kept getting wedged in the wheel gap (or the lack of it), and I had to clean it everyday.

I have LM25s on the bimmer, how do they compare to LM60s?

This will be the first and only year of driving the 330 in the snow. We are not usually hit like the Cleveland area but we get our fair share. Hopefully it does fine for what I need this year!

Hi all!

I just bought a CPO'ed Gray '08 335xi Coupe with 6MT...loaded with every option except XM, Sunshade, or adaptive cruise. I'm loving it, though the power is not quite as high as I'm used to, so I'll probably be picking up a Procede pretty soon.



You guys think I'll be alright for the winter with the X-drive and the stock RF all seasons? I got Wintersport 3Ds on my Evo and the thing is absolutely incredible in the snow, but I'd rather not spend $1500-$2000 right away for a set of tires & wheels. Not worried at all about the roads, but I got a 150-ft gravel driveway with a slight grade to it.

I'm thinking eventually I might get a lightweight summer wheel/tire package and possibly throw some snows on the stock rims.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing some of you around...I live out at Geauga Lake and work in Twinsburg.

Hell, you can pick up a used winter set from this site for WAY CHEAPER than $1500-$2000. I just picked up a set of like new rims and Dunlop winters with lots of tread for $600. I just had to drive to Detroit to pick them up. I would think the all seasons with the X drive will suffice, especially if you have a AWD car with winter already on it.

Thanks, and good point. I guess I'll be keeping my eyes open for a used set.

In the meantime, I'll see how the all seasons hold up for the first snowfall.

Yeah, I have another AWD with snows, but hopefully not for much longer...until now, I've had the Evo for AWD snow safety and local summer fun and a much more highway-friendly Acura TL-S for the frequent business trips I take out of state. The whole point of getting the 335xi was to have the complete package so I can sell the other two cars!

Unless you don't want to do it at a generic shop, then BMW of Cleveland... there's also Larchmere Imports which is closer to you.

I have a RWD car with Blizzaks on it right now, so I can't tell you how X-Drive will perform in the winter with all-seasons, especially living in the snow belt. But, I guess keep this in mind... when you go in for service at a dealership in winter, they will most likely give you an X-Drive car with all-seasons, and with my limited experience with those, I've had no problems unless the snow was too high for ground clearance.

You'll probably be fine... but since it's your daily driver, incase the all-seasons can't handle it, have a backup plan!

As far as I know, LM60s provide slightly better traction for heavier snow or ice conditions. Both are about the same though. The WS60/70s take it a step up since they are the studless versions of their best snow/ice tires. I use the WS60s, and I'll say they are phenomenal in the snow and I've only had issues once only because of ground clearance.

I'll see how it goes for now but may eventually get snows if for nothing else then for the help in braking traction which (as everyone knows) x-drive only makes worse due to added weight.

I can't imagine having RWD as a daily driver in these winters, but then, this is only the second winter in my life where I've lived in a snowy climate so I suppose it's my lack of experience that gives me that extra margin of respect for the white stuff!

As for summer, The RF all-seasons are pretty disappointing--especially in the amount of road noise--and the potential performance boost from going to some proper lightweight wheels with wider & "grippier" rubber will be hard to resist.

You're welcome. I too was skeptical about RWD in the snow when I purchased my car, but after two winters, I can honestly say that BMWs are solid cars as long as you buy the appropriate equipment to go along with them. You just need to get used to it a little. The hardest part is getting into my garage which has a 20-25 degree incline on an angle... but that's when DTC off comes into play

I agree. I picked up my Blizzack RFTs/rims/TPMS with lot of tread left for $600 in Dublin after finding it on craigslist. The seller had just returned his leased 335i.
