Wheel Refinish DIY

Hey guys,

A few months ago I bought a set of 219s from a forum member as it came with winter tires and I wanted to get some winter tires. I bought the wheels having known that the wheels were in pretty bad shape and figured I would get them refinished. But before I went that route I figured I would give it a shot to DIY them. Worst case scenario I'd get them professionally done. Pics are attached below.

Steps I followed:
1: Wet Sand the wheels down as much as possible. Start with 120 grit, finished off with 320 Grit.
2: Dupli-Color Filler Primer (2 coats)
3: Sand (320 Grit)
4: Dupli-Color Wheel Paint Base Coat - 2 coats (I went with black because I wanted the bronze to be darker)
5: Dupli-Color Wheel Paint Bronze Top coat (2.5 coats)
6: Dupli-Color Wheel Paint Clear (3 Coats)

Took 2 guys about 2 days total. Appx cost $70. As opposed to $500 professional. If it doesn't hold after winter I'll get the same color professionally done. If they hold up, they hold up!

Well done sir.
This looks amazing. I love the dark bronze color...
Also love the 219 wheels... I think if you lowered you car a little bit it would pull it all together... the 219s look so good on a lowered car since it really brings the more aggressive offsets all together.

It makes me want to do my polished lips in this color...

Do you have a paint color code of the bronze you used? Or a picture of the rattle can?

Fronts rub when steering wheel is in full lock. Barely though.

Well done!! You guys did an amazing job considering these wheels have so may spokes. I know I have them on my E90 and keeping them clean is a pain.
219 are great wheels being 18 inch and strong.

Hey now, great job on the refurbishment! Meh, not too keen on the color selection(I think it would have looked killer with plain old matte black against your white car), but hey, you're happy so we're happy with you!
