Just a PSA for people who live in Seattle..

I got pulled over 3 times in the last 2 weeks for not having a front plate. Each citation is $124. After the cop pulled me over he tried to hook me for a few other things. Like speeding and illegal lane changes. All of which i didn't do but pulling me over for not having a front plate gives them a reason, initially. He said he observed me passing a stopped bus .

I use my signals every chance I get because I like to show off how bright they are.

Oh and the last time my vacuum line came off and I couldn't build boost, so I couldn't even accelerate over 35 but his radar gun "clocked" me at 45.

I used to respect SPD but their actions recently in the press and what they've done to me have really strained my belief in them. I still appreciate what they do though because it is a dangerous job. It's love/hate.

I ended up ordering this http://www.gominigo.com/BMW.html
55 for the no holes bracket.

I guess it's nearing the end of the month so law enforcement officers have to meet their quota . Looks like I have to invest in one of those license plate holders myself

Out of curiosity where were you? I am more in the North end, but I'm starting to hear more and more of these stories. I've never had a front plate on any of my cars since i started driving (33 now), and have been pulled over a total of two times but never ticketed. Both times I could tell they were just pulling me over to check me out. I was polite, acted like I didn't know how to screw on a licence plate, and they told me to have a nice day and get it taken care of soon.

I hate the way front plates look, plus i grew up in scotsdale and arizona has no front plate requirements, so I got used to the look of no front plate. Turn 16 up here and the first thing I do is proudly take that fucker off the front of my car...

I've had pretty damn good luck so far...but I'm starting to get nervous! lol

I have the gomini on the wife's car. She likes to use the BrownBear carw washes. Everytime, it bends the hell outta the front plate. So, something tht allows you to remove the plate would be better. I saw one that had a quick release mechanism rther than the straight bolt-on.

hahah I laughed at myself when I almost ordered a front plate holder... I live up in the Northside of Seattle so I dont see many Seattle/Shoreline cops at all...

This has got me thinking that I need to rethink my original opinion though!

cops having a 'quota' is a myth... though, i have heard of Police Captains giving out orders to look for specific violations in a given time period. Maybe January-February is no front plate they're looking for...

I work in the hood...lol. I've had no problems for about a year now. Maybe it is the month for this specific citation.

Each cop that pulled me over had a smirk on their face and had to inquire about the plate.

Was it fat bike cops? I got two tickets from them for no front plate. Both in chinatown. You can get at least one completely dropped with no fees if you just take a picture and bring it in. I use rho plate now.

One other easy option is to use dbl-sided tape. The you can put it on and off w/o hassles. Just make sure it's an automotive 3M tape, i.e. "3m HEAVY DUTY dbl tape (gray foam with red peel-away plastic), not the standard (white foam with green peel-away)."

Quotes because I have only researched this (guess why ?), I have not tried it yet, but I will. Cheap and easy to remove.

(some are using magnets but I've not found good info on it)

I've been running no Front plate since I replaced my bumper. I never realized how much cleaner it looks. I wish the plugs for the holes were cheaper though. I also left my license plate on my dash.. Very civic hatch look, but I'm paranoid about getting pulled over. No problems so far! (crosses fingers)

Just dropped off my car at BMW Seattle (some weird squeaky rubbing in the right rear) and checked the price for the front tow hook plate. It is $100 folks.
