E90 N54 Engine showing 2EF7 2E83 error codes
Hi All,
Car: 2008 E90 335i sedan Background About 10/2012 had an issue with water pump failure and had it towed to dealership. The warranty insurance replaced water pump but refused to replace the thermostat. Ever since the original water pump issue year ago, many different little things happening. I've attached a picture of the error codes Some of the symptoms: - really rough idle in random parts of the day and temp (jump to 2000 rpm and then 650 rpm then back to 2000rpm. - The temp gauge in car takes about 1 hour to settle in the middle which is 250 degrees. Prior to the water pump failure it would take 15-20 minutes to reach 250 degrees. - After turning off engine, it is really HOT. I leave the hood open and hours later it is still very hot from the outside. I cant touch hood of car because it is too hot. Error code I bought the Bavarian Technic Cable Diagnostic / Reset Tool for BMW and used to check for engine codes and these codes generated: MSD80/MSd81 Engine Module for N53/N54 - 2EF7 2EF7 characteristic diagram thermostat, control Error will not cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have been completed timeout - 2E83 2E83 Electrical cooling pump, low-power mode Error will not cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have been completed Short circuit or signal interruption HELP as much as you can - The dealer states that warranty will not replace the part because it has not failed. - I would like to resolve this issue before I am stranded on a long cross country trip. - Will replacing the water pump and thermostat the next likely step? Why they did not replace the thermostat while they were in there is beyond my comprehension. Hind site being 20/20 you should have paid them the extra$$ to replace the thermostat. My guess is now you have to replace the thermostat and the water pump. There is a great DIY at BavAuto. The parts can be had for under $450.00 if you shop around.

This error points to a failed or failing thermostat. Replace and go!
