Had an electrical issue which gave me a whole heap of errors and warnings and wouldnt allow me to connect to the dme to read codes.
Took it to the pros at Hills Eurohaus.
Turned out to be a faulty JBE which controls all communications to the electronic accessories.
2nd hand one sourced, fitted and codes to my car and no problems any more ☺
Got them to give the car a service and check over.
Next on the list when i get home from holidays is a new set of non run flats, and then a DCT service with new pan, filter and bolts, as i have a small leak from the gasket and oil is slowly weeping out.
Best to get it done before it causes any problems.
Welcome back... wondered what you have been up to mate

Haha.
Havent gone anywhere. Still lurking regularly, just got engaged 5 months ago, currently in Hawaii on holidays, as well as trying to organize our wedding and playing with the GTR, so mods on the vert have been scarce as of late.

Again, not a lot happening to the BMW due to spending a lot of time working on the GTR getting it ready for GTR Festival this saturday at WSID.
Have spent about 60 hours in 6 days (spread over a few weeks) just focused on cleaning up the engine bay and here is the result:

I was lucky enough to purchase a pair from a guy in Qld for a very reasonable price, except they were this red colour, which wasnt guna work for me.

I dropped them off to another mate of mine who is a panel beater / spray painter who worked his magic on them for me.
They came out a treat

Then it was time to fit the newly painted covers back on the mirrors.

Next came time to fit the mirrors to the car.
So these were the last pictures with the original mirrors on.

Now came the time to pull apart the door trims and fit the mirrors.
Here we have an untouched trim.
Name: mirrors10.jpg
Views: 289
Size: 1.25 MB

Then the wood grain strip removed.
Name: mirrors11.jpg
Views: 288
Size: 1.27 MB

After the wood grain strip is removed, there are 4 x T20 torx screws to remove from behind the trim.
I also forgot to take a photo, but the trim on the handle also has to be removed and there is 1 more T20 screw behind the handle trim.
Then the trim can be unclipped and all wiring unplugged for the trim to be removed completely.

Size: 1.23 MB

Once the trim has been removed, there are 3 x T30 torx screws behind where the tweeter trim sat.
When these are removed the mirror simply comes away.Name: mirrors13.jpg
Views: 275
Size: 992.7 KB

Then its a matter of putting the M3 mirrors on in their place and doing all the same steps, just in reverse.
M3 mirror fitted.

Trim put back on.

Now when taking the trim apart on the passenger door I discovered that on the E92 and E93, because of the doors being pillarless, you can maneuver the tweeter trim pieces so that they can be removed without removing the entire door trim.
So this was the approach i took with the drivers side.
Standard mirror removed.

Luck for me, these mirrors came with all the bells and whistles to match what I had previously which I have tested and everything works perfectly fine:
Shadow line gloss black trim
Power fold
Reverse dip
Auto dim

One extra feature that these supposedly have which I haven't been able to test yet is heated glass.
But if it gets cold enough, ill be sure to test it out.

So the car has pissed me off to no end over the last few months with what seems to be a never ending wave of problems.
So I have taken all the M3 bits and pieces back off it and am now selling them off, with some already sold.
Here is a link to my For Sale post:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1458052
There will be other bits and pieces after i get back from my honeymoon in about 6 weeks.
After that, I will be parting ways with the car.

Some people truly get shocking luck with these things, both of mine have been great but fuck some are lemons.

Where do I start!?!

o2 sensors failed and had to be changed.
car has a continual miss when cold regardless of coils, injectors, servicing etc. and cant find what the problem is.
cam cover gasket leaked and changed.
dct gearbox weeping from both pans quoted nearly $3k to do.
radiator leaked had to be changed.
diff bearing failed and had to swap for low km diff.
rear window regulator failed and had to change.
continual problem with convertible roof limit switches and roof not locking properly when folded away every now and then (have to open and close it a couple of times before it clunks loudly into place and locks).
Junction box failed and had to be changed.
LPFP sensor failed and had to be changed.
Water leaking into the battery well (cant find the leak).
Wastegates rattle like crazy (pretty sure they come from the factory like that lol).
Constant CELs for no reason which come and go as they please without me resetting anything.
Now the car is sitting idle with a coolant leak coming from what is suspected to be the rear turbo coolant return line, in which case i have to pull half of the car apart just to get to it, and from what i have been told, i might even have to remove the rear turbo just to get the line out!!!

And im sure there is more i have tried to forget about.

And i haven't even gotten to half of the "Normal" problems these cars have like water pump, lpfp, hpfp, coolant reservoir, oil filter housing gasket, alternator etc etc....

So rather than just drive it whilst waiting for the next inevitable problem to rear its ugly head, im just guna cut my (substantial) losses and move on.

Basically BMW have engineered an over-complicated rattly sieve on wheels plagued with electrical and mechanical problems that looks good. Which is a shame because when the car doesn't have problems (which is not very often), it is a stunningly beautiful car to drive.
