Can't code DSC or initialize steering

Had a bunch of DSC codes after putting in a used steering rack so I bought a used DSC module and I am still getting codes saying it has the wrong VIN and it needs coding. When I try to code it and change vin with Protool, it says success. When I try with NCSexpert, it says COAPI-2060 coding failed ecu request out of range. When I read the vin, it is correct. When I try to initialize the steering angle, it seems to work but the codes persist

Does anyone have any insight as to why this would happen?

Codes:

DSC 5E59 CONTROL MODULE: RECODE
DSC 5E1F: CONTROL MODULE: INCORRECT VIN
DSC 5E50: STEERING ANGLE SENSOR SERIAL NUMBER, CALIBRATION REQUIRED

EGS CF2B: NO MESSAGE FROM LDM

AFS 614A: MOTOR POSITION ANGLE NOT INITIALIZED
AFS CE93: STEERING WHEEL ANGLE MESSAGE FROM SZL FAULTY

I would change the vin first. I believe it can be done with tool32:

This is for SZL but the DSC should be the same.

Note that you need to get your checksum digit from NCS first and put that at the end.

I had several modules that didn't have the right Vin when I got my e90 so I changed them all with winkfp:

This is an example:

and another:

Most modules can be coded several times. I had no issues with RAD, and the JBBF, I think the DME is one where you don't want to program it unless you have to though.

I got the same COAPI errors when trying to code my car until I fixed all of the mismatching vins (my RAD had been updated, I changed the JBBF, etc)

Note that I couldn't get my SZL to calibrate and it was acting very strangely. It turned out that I had a bad speed sensor of all things that made it error out...

thank you, it does report the correct vin number, but it still says incorrect vin! I'll try with WINKFP, but I'm pretty sure protool does the exact same thing. I just replaced all 4 wheel speed sensors and confirmed they are good. (My car thinks it's driving 4-8km/hr with the engine off, in park, on jack stands and I believe this is causing other issues) Specifically which sensor was bad?

My left front speed sensor was bad. The local stealership tried to say that I had a bad DSC and charged me for 2 hours of diag and fixed nothing. That is why I dread letting anyone work on my car....

haven't fixed it yet - but it seems the junk yard sold me either the wrong module (someone mentioned dsc from 4cyl and 6cyl being different) or a faulty module. when it's plugged in, the whole car goes crazy. when i disconnect it, everything seems fine except for the transmission (stuck in third and targeting wrong gear)
