No. Come on. This is what I am saying Shirley. If you think someone is being harsh then point it out. We will burn them alive at the Stake.

I bought mine new, in sport plus guise so with the exception of engine, it's probably better specked than a lot of the bigger models out there. A new 335 would have cost a lot more.

I have to say that also I see a lot of the bigger models purchased and flaunted on here are a few years old. So being condescending on those with the smaller models ' cause we couldn't afford to run with the big boys' is out of order, whether it is meant intentionally or not.

And I know some won't see the financial sense of buying a new car (or will at least hide behind that as a reason for buying a used one as the bigger models cost a LOT more new. For me, a brand new car is a wonderful thing.
Just my opinion Rob, I do not think you have a chip on your shoulder as suggested.

Just your opinion and I agree with you, well said.

I am now in process of looking at cars but frankly I'm looking as cheap as possible now. I can afford probably a lease on a 50-60k EUR car but I don't see the point as I drive like 4km per day. Hence I opened up my mind a bit and money saved goes to other fun things. So 320i or 318d or whatever is alright.

Big engine is nice, of course. I'm just saying don't pretend you NEED it. You get it just because and it's fun to have that feeling of being pushed into seat, and that's all. That's alright.

And remember if you are in a 318i 'M Sport' or an M6 Convertible [£100k] or anything in between, you will always be driving an 'M' car.

You could say that about anything. Do you need a 318i? You could do the same in any other make/model.

I got my 335D exactly because of what you said. Its fun and I like having fun. Other people have different needs, such as practicality, economy etc. That's perfectly fine. I don't really see why there's even a discussion on this?

I don't get this at all..

EVERYONE knows a 320d is a good car..

I had a loaner 118d recently. That was a "good" car too.

What's the problem, I've only seen positive comments on this forum about the smaller engines models.

I used to commute just over 600 miles a week in a 4 speed 1.1l fiesta and it did this no problem at all.

So why the need for a straight six twin turbo on our overcrowded roads.

Is this not just personal taste rather than NEED.

Just my opinion, don't rip my head off.

You're right, of course its personal taste. People buy cars on that basis, otherwise we'd all buy the same car! It's the same for a 318i, you don't need it. You could do the same in any other car (just perhaps not have as much fun).

By the way yes our roads are crowded but not all lol. There's so many roads to fully use each of the 6 cylinders, trust me

Totally agree mate, especially up here in Cumbria. All 'A' roads so you can have great fun specially on a nice early sunday morning.

My personal taste was for a 2.0 turbo due to the lighter engine. When I have has six cylinders in the past I find the front end to weighty with the big lump up front.

Found the 2.0t [S3 etc] a lot more fun on the twisty stuff.

Exactly! What's fun to you might not be fun for other people, and vice versa!

Good point mate.

The only thing I miss form a six cylinder is noise, they just sound amazing.

Problem with them is they are to old in technology. [i.e just a big old lump of muscle]

Look at an S5 for example they have gone from ...4.2 V8 to a lighter V6 config with a turbo on to reduce front end weight.
