Newer generation cluster retrofit

I really like the digital style cluster from the F series cars. I see the aftermarket digital clusters available for the E90s, but it looks too out of place in my opinion. I also don't like the LED modification as it looks kind of cheap from what I've seen online. I like the M3 clusters but they're pretty expensive for only gaining a fancy redline. Are there any other retrofits possible? I know it's a pretty small cluster cutout but perhaps that too can be cleanly modified if it only needs about an inch on both sides.

Has this been done before? I haven't seen anything online about it and it's being drowned out by M3 retrofits and aftermarket digital cluster threads.

Edit 7/29/2021: Would it be possible to take the DJ103FA-01A digital cluster screen from the F Chassis Digital cluster and fit it to an e90? I doubt any modification to the dash itself would be necessary. There might also be a way to modify the bottom "efficient dynamics" and fuel range meters to reflect the engine temp and fuel capacity like in the e9x.

I can't help you with a digital cluster, cost is a non starter for me, but take a look at my IG page, clustersandcoding. There's nothing cheap or half assed about what I do.

I have found a DJ103FA-01A screen on aliexpress for $55 and was wondering if this would have any compatibility with the e9x chassis. It seems like this screen, being the relatively same width as the e90 cluster, it could be more feasible than I originally thought. Might need to modify the cluster housing a bit but if it receives all the necessary inputs, this would be a really cool DIY.

Will look into it more on my own.

The aliexpress listing is called "Original new CMI Display DJ103FA-01A screen Active Matrix Module Bo-sch 8928554068 for Car DVD GPS navigation LCD monitor"

No not at this time. It would be a great project but I've been pretty preoccupied recently and don't have the time to pursue any further. Will be a while before I return to this retrofit

You really should check out my man over @ ClustersandCoding. You can find him on Facebook, just put “clustersandcoding” in the search bar. He sells modified OEM clusters but he also sells just regular stock M clusters. They’re “virginized”, meaning he wipes the VIN data on the chip so that it’s like new again. You just install it and then default code it and bam!

I bought an M5 cluster off of him and so did 2 of my buddies. This was a couple of years ago, so I’m not sure what he charges now but his prices are extremely reasonable. I think I paid around $260 total, maybe a bit more. But that’s a great price.

I think the e90 cluster looks way better than the f30 one. Just get your cluster modified to your heart's content if you don't like it.

+1

I do not like my F25 bottom digital bar - looks ugly.
I also think that E9X cluster is one on the most refined designs.

Having said the above, my personal preference would be E90 style with separate gauges for fuel and oil temp (and no MPG)
