Need a silent top mount for a 2.25" ID coilover spring
I am running JRZ shocks up front, and they have 2.25" ID(inside diamter) Eibach springs on them. Right now I have Ground Control race plates, and they are very noisy, I am pretty sure they are defective because it is not a normal sound. Does anyone have any recommendations for these coilovers that would provide a silent ride? For the record, I know 2 people with the JRZs (which are a race plate) that are completely silent. I was going to go with JRZ, but they are nearly $600 with shipping costs from the Netherlands. Are there any other options other than the GC or Vorschlag street plates? Will Dinan plates fit on a 2.25" ID spring? Does anyone have any other suggestions?
As always, thanks One more update! I have decided to go with Ground Control Street camber plates. I've heard many good things about these and they are reasonably priced at $350. I decided against reusing my stock mounts as I want the camber adjustment. Last edited by chris82; 11-13-2015 at 09:33 AM.. |

I *believe* that the Dinans use the OEM top hat and don't have any moving (or adjustable) parts, which should make them dead quiet. As long as you don't mind giving up adjustability, of course.

OP would still need a different spring perch to fit with the OEM top hat to go the Dinan route(?)

The dinan look like a great option, and I would like to go that route as I usually only run up to 2.5-2.8 camber in front, so with M3 control arms I can probably achieve something close. Would I just need a different sprint perch?

I don't mind. I usually set it and forget it anyways. It looks like I may need a different spring perch as I cannot use OEM

For the Dinan solution, yes I think you would need to find an upper spring perch that matched your springs and one compatible with the oem mount. I just don't know if it exists or if there are issues to deal with if it does. One suggestion might be to ask someone like TC Kline as they sell coilovers and offer the option to order without camber plates....ie is there compatibility with their coilovers and oem top mounts? maybe they have a solution? ....or some other coilover vendor with similar springs? |

I think you need an upper spring perch like the one linked and you can reuse or get new OEM top hats.

So I called JRZ, they are going to send me a bushing kit and top spring adaptor and once I get that I can reuse my OE top mounts. It is only going to cost $230 with shipping which is great. Thanks for the help

You said it . No one understands the torment these Ground Controls have put me through. Never again. Never. Again. For the love of god, if anyone is considering camber plates, stay away from the GC race ones, the bearings are just not meant for any sort of street use.

Any adjustable camber plate will eventually make noise as the bearing wears, introducing play and thus noise.
I am running Dinan fixed plates on my xDrive. I am maxed out at -2.4 camber. I have H&R coilovers and am using the OEM strut top. No modification other than removing the alignment pin (which is required when using Dinan fixed plates). |

Vorshlag on mine is pretty quiet. You do hear some NVH in a parking lot with undulating surface if you turn off the radio and with a silent surrouding. But once the car is moving, there is essentially noise free.
Honestly, my shocks and stiff PU rear shock mount make more noise than the camber plates, which was surprising.

Sounds about right with stock control arms. If you have M3, you get an extra -0.7.

Unfortunately, M arms do not fit xDrive models. So this was my way of getting the added negative camber without the use of adjustable plates. Then made a custom poly bushing for the thrust arm. It's more or less the M arm upgrade for AWD. |
