It would 110% be another BMW, if I can't get another E92 then I'd be "forced" between a 128i sport or what I've always wanted, an E60 M5 which is obviously a horrible financial decision but I think it sounds and looks absolutely epic. Just hope the M5 doesn't drive as soft as the 528 does.. I also really like the E39 540i

If not a BMW, 996 911s are pretty cheap

Tesla Model 3. I'm sick of doing maintenance for gasoline engines. Its not a manual however.

if they made it manual i would buy. Like you can shift it and the power would go down then back up when your in the next gear. And for slowing down you need more electricity so you have the add more throttle so you be downshifting

Went back to test drive it again yesterday. Not great. I got there, and they’d just switched the car over to 20’s (which are too big, IMO). Noticed as soon as I took it out, that the steeering felt squirrelly and weird. Low tire light came on almost immediately. Brought it back to the dealership. Unfortunately the service department was closed already. Sigh.

Coming back MOnday for a 3rd crack at this.

Ugh. I totalled up what I’ve spent on maintenance yesterday in the past 7 years and it’s eye opening. Plus my turbo wastegates are starting to rattle (started in the last few months). I wanna keep this thing forever, but I’m not willing to replace the turbos on it. I’m only at 164527 Kms. Anybody have an idea how long stock turbos will last typically?

Well, technically you could tell yourself it’s a one-speed manual if that helps .

How much are they to replace? Looks like parts are maybe $2k CAD?

To answer the title question, absolutely nothing. Nothing even comes close imo. I will never get rid of my E92. If I were to move on to something newer, it'd probably be a 440i but the F3X manuals are very poor in comparison to the GS6, not to mention electronic power steering... If money were no object, I'd truly consider a G80, not a fan of the front very much but the rest sounds very appealing.

Hmm, an M240 would also be a considerable option but again, weaker trans and steering.

Yeah. I’m kind of resigning myself to the fact that the F30 isn’t gonna be the same drive. The E90 just feels like it fits me perfectly. The seating position, the relationship between the pedals and shifter. When you turn, it feels like the car rotates around you. Whereas in the F30, it feels like the front of the car changes directions and you follow it a second later. I find the E90 suspension, even in stock xDrive form, much better controlled over bumps and at higher speeds than the F30 as well.

Wastegate rattle doesn't mean bad turbos. Just unbolt the actuator housing off and put a washer between the housing and where it mounts to the turbocharger and add more if necessary to remove the rattle. As long as the turbo seals are good and you don't rag on it when cold they'll last a long time

1000% another bmw like a 335i or the e39 because those are so silky smooth and reliable, quality is amazing! The 335i would be to build and for power! Maybe a diesel 335d would be nice. A e46 330i as well since those are easy to work on!

So I was in the same boat as the OP and was originally going to stick with another 3 series. I did not like the F so was excited when the G series arrived. Then I completely flipped and started researching an X3 M40i. I was amazed at the speed and handling you have with one of these beast. A few things won me over. The first was the ease of getting in and out out it since I am in my early 60’s and have a bad back. The second was Home Depot trips towing my 8 foot utility trailer! I only have 750 miles on my 2021 so far, but this is a spots car in disguise. I also kept my 2011 328 with 187,650 miles on her as I still enjoy driving it, and it was my first BMW.

Yeah I think I’m done. My water pump failed suddenly last night without warning. For the second time. Getting towed to my mechanics today. Think I’m gonna pull the trigger on that 340. Feels like a sign. Gonna have to put more money into this thing to sell it.

Been having the same conversations with myself....what to replace my E92 with. Rightnow I'm thinking about a 2012-2013 335IS coupe or possibly a 2019+ M440

In time that sweet, sweet B58 will assuage the pain of letting the E90 go. And you are right that finding another car with M Perf I and II PLUS a 6MT is prettttty unlikely.

I’m sorry to hear about your 335 man. Original WP?

Nope. Already replaced once 80k Kms ago. Seems to be lifespan on these. No warning of course. Replacing parts I’ve already replaced once at this point. Getting fixed right now.

The stupid thing is, I’m not gonna trade it in. I have a feeling I’m gonna have a really hard time letting go of it. I could honestly see myself selling that F30 for a profit and keeping my E90 forever. Then I think about having to replace the turbos or something and my enthusiasm wanes...

I have an '07 335i convertible 6MT. Am reasonably happy with the car, but this thread was really a good thought experiment. I always liked the look of the 6-series convertibles (E63, F06/12/13), especially since they had the somewhat usable back seat. I've read a number of posts that BMW 8 cylinders have maintenance problems (I have an N54, and am familiar with starring into the Abyss..). I've seen a number of these used, with fewer miles than the plethora of similar year E9Xs for sale. I wonder if a low mileage 6 would be a viable alternative, or should one just run away....
