2011 335is. order of action help needed
Purchased recently, but putting a lot of miles on it daily for work.
Have noticed the front rotors are starting to wiggle. Starting to hear little clunks from front end and also know the struts need replaced. I can do 2 of the 3 right away. I plan on upgrading to the M3 control arms. I need to know if OEM strut replacements will pair with the upgrade and what 2 should be done first? The rotors and clunking are annoying, but maybe there's a mechanical reason that I should have a defined course?? Thanks for any input. |

Many people here have gone with the M3 control arms and OEM struts. I have not gone with those control arms for no particular reason. I would recommend looking at something other than OEM struts, though. I have been very happy with B4 and B6 from Bilstein. Those two work great with stock springs. I have B4 on my e92 m-sport, and B6 on my m roadster. If I keep my 335is, I will be doing B6 on that one.

RockAuto and FCP are going to be the best places to shop most of the time. You may be able to find some deals and do it all at once.
I would not get new TRW m3 arms—the new ones are garbage. Get the Meyle kit from FCP or some used genuine BMW M3 arms. Or obviously the usual lemforder OE replacements. Make absolutely sure you replace the bolts too. Koni orange is a great stock replacement shock that can handle lowering springs if you ever wanted to and they have a lifetime warranty too. AutoHance usually has the best deals there Now to answer your actual question, the control arms and rotors are going to be more critical than struts but you would be looking at 2 alignments which may or not be a big deal. There’s also something to be said for not doing a bunch of work all at once as it can be hard to know where you went wrong if an issue does arise. Good luck! |

Thanks for the reply!
I will not be lowering it. I have a 15 yr old about to get his license. So, my plan is to swap this for an m4 and let him have it, so I'm just trying to shore it up before he runs it into the ground. The M3 control arms are icky because they're not that much more $ than eom. He just wants to go in a straight line anyway... Again, thanks for your reply! R0ll |
