so are you modifying the original parts? if I disassemble my head, you could get them machined?

Or exchange them and core charge your pieces. I want to batch them to the machinist 6-7 sets at a time. Do you have to have your specific pieces back?

The 3 sets of used ones have no measurable wear. I really don't see the need for new pieces unless 'that guy' really wants new or to just build up the stock pile of pieces.
Core exchange on used pieces like $50, is also cheaper than the new $90-$100 or so for 6 new pieces, if available.

I don't need them back really, no. I'm not even sure I'm going to use the head that's on this engine - when you add up all the parts, time and effort, it's not that expensive to buy a brand new head that doesn't have 200k worn parts on it.

if you plot out the lift curve of the final setup, I can post the required mapping changes to make the DME happy.

Picking up 6 sets from the machinist tomorrow. 3 new sets and 3 sets used.

So the question is, which would you want? New pieces or used pieces?
Would you 'sell back' your removed/used pieces for ? $40?

New pieces cost about $100 shipped for set of 6 from ECS.

What is this mod worth? Seeing how a set of Schrick cams are $1500/pr.

You said there was no measurable wear, so I don't think it would matter. Kind of like reground cams/bored TBs requiring your core. Some people would want the piece of mind about having a brand new part.

So it's time for testing, data logging and dynos?

Me? I think it's like $60 for 3 runs at Proven Power in Tampa, and for the hour, I think I paid $80 or so. Ridiculously cheap. The only issue I have now is time, as they aren't open on the weekends.

Z Fever in Tampa was where I did my most recent dyno, and I think it was around 60ish. I did a dyno a few years ago in St Petersburg on my Black E90 for $50 on their dyno day for charity as well...

Thanks.

I popped my head into a shop near my office yesterday and they quoted 75 for three runs or 120 for the day. Not ready yet but they are close.

Sort of intimidating, they seem to specialize in V8s so anything less then 500 HP does not interest them.

I think that's the shop I went to for a dyno day. In an industrial park? Powertech Performance?

Yes, that the one. It's funny I'be driving by the shop for the last 6 years and never knew it was there. I'll pass by in the morning well before sunrise and the signs and buildings are not lit so I can't see anything. Opposite direction in the evenings the road splits and you don't pass it.

It's right there by one of the more fun corners on the NB 275 commute option. Can't be more than 5 miles from my office.

PM me if you are interested in trying these, I have 6 sets I'll let go to cover my costs (my time is free, ha)

6-New supports that have been machined and modified to add 0.5mm more intake valve lift at over 80% throttle position for $250 shipped and I will send you a $50 check if you return your 6 used stock supports.

6-Used supports that have been machined and modified to add 0.5mm more intake valve lift at over 80% throttle position for $200 shipped and I will send you a $50 check if you return your 6 used stock supports.

You will need a E8 torx socket (external torx) to remove the supports, 22mm socket to turn over the engine crank and a torque wrench to install.

Sigh. Looks like I might have to do this. And justpete and hassmaschine as well. (I like volunteering them for things) We would need him to modify our tunes to make the DME happy though.

Anyone have an OFT that I can borrow?

FWIW, I'm currently mapping out MSV80 - I have about 3400 parameters located (the total is 9903, but most of them we don't really need). Terra and I already have a working OBD flash for MSV80 - it relies on WinKFP currently, but it's at least feasible to flash a modified file (such as modifying the parameters for extra lift). Working with Pheno for adding OBD read capability to Testo as well - so if you already have a tune, you could keep it and add this mod on top.

That's what I was looking for. Grabbing an OFT and having you make these changes for me...(if you're willing of course)

I could do that. However, you may not even need an OFT - just a $20 DCAN cable and a functional copy of WinKFP. The missing link at the moment is being able to do an OBD read of your current tune.

I'm at ~3800 parameters. that's probably all i will find from MSV70. Any remaining important ones will have to be done by hand, and the rest we can just ignore for the most part. Unless somebody comes across an MSV80 damos, but I've never heard of one..

I have the DCAN cable, I can probably find a working version of the WINKFP. You couldn't grab the damos from from ____ ECU when you read it?

Damos is a factory list of maps/parameters for each DME. They are specific to the software version being used - the newest Damos for MSV70 is from like 2004, and there isn't one (that is publically available) for MSV80. But, I have methods to deal with that.

Hopefully Pheno can work out the OBD read part. There is still some missing infrastructure, but the pieces are starting to fall into place; the days of needing a proprietary $500 cable to flash are numbered.
