There is come compromise from the oem mounts. But it's needed seeing I'm in the 700/700 hp/tq.
Is this my boy in FL? with the single turbo? We're friends on FB yes? If so, it's nice to finally find your screen name on here Bme30
I'm glad I know someone running this MM
Will the ad motor mounts work on xi?

Picked up the car after installing the BFI stage 1 motor mounts and the E46 M3 trans mounts. All the drivetrain slack is gone, particular the jerkiness of the car at 1st and 2nd gear, (and I have an AT, the 6MT drivers will notice an even bigger improvement I bet)

Downside is that they do add fair amount of NVH, there is noticeable amount of vibration inside the cabin at idle and you will notice the weird harmonics at 900-1000rpm when you take off from a stoplight. And you will get quite a bit more induction sound from the engine to the cabin with these mounts, which might be a good thing if that's what you are looking for (sounds more like a NA engine in this case).

Overall, the tradeoff for comfort not terribly bad, but if you are relatively sensitive to noise and vibration like me, these will certainly catch your attention.

FYI, the noise does seem to die down a bit (like 20% decrease) after a few short drives from yesterday. Will see how these perform after some break in. But I would not recommend anything stiffer than these stage 1 mounts for street use daily driver.

Any reason why you went with these and not AD Engineering? I have read that after a few 1000s miles these types of mounts do break in and NVH is reduced a bit. Keep the thread updated after the breakup period.

AD was out of stock lol. And the car was going to the shop for a leaking PS hose anyway. BFI was the only non bolt through or solid mount available at the time.

I am using the OEM E46 M3 trans mounts. It is already significantly stiffer than the stock e9x ones. No need to go any stiffer for a street automatic car. Plus it is OEM, so it should be more durable than most of the half ass aftermarket trans mounts out there.

Do you know the part # you purchased? And what was your total cost?
Thanks for the review.

lol enough said...

trans mounts are cheap... and extremely easy to replace as well...

motor mounts take a bit more work due to the lack of space to work with, but a competent shop who is familiar with N54 should be able to get it done in an hour or two.

For those who are interested, the BFI mounts do break in a bit after a few hundred miles of driving. The high frequency vibration has been reduced quite a bit at higher rpm, and the cabin has become noticeably quieter while cruising.

Still have the rather annoying harmonic at 700-900rpm when crawling around the parking lot in 2nd gear, but I guess it is mostly due to the engine load on the AT cars. 6mt guys shouldn't have any of these issue.

How long have you had BFI mounts on the car?

Just an update...

Took a quick peak at the engine bay today, looks like passenger side mount from BFI is kind of melting from the exhaust heat. The polymer insert inside the metal casing is being pouring out... Disappointing, considering this car hasn't even been driven all that much in the last month... Guess it is back to the stock and 335is mounts.

What are your thoughts on the AD Engineering option? These are the ones I have decided to try...

You may want to try the 335is for both sides. Tony (Vargas) had confirmed on the other forum that it fits on both sides.

Yes that's what he said over on the other forum. I am REALLY curious about this.

Furthermore, wouldn't the rubber stock/oem/ or 335IS mounts also melt though since they're made of rubber?

Don't bother with PU. It doesn't matter what the design is, polyurethane is polyurethane. So I doubt another design with similar material will stand up better than these on the exhaust side.

I am just gonna replace the driver side with 335is one for now. But I will be asking for BFI for a refund on this. At $200 a piece, this is unacceptable.

Will try to get a picture of the problem later today.

There are many kinds of rubber. But vulcanized rubber typically have higher melting point than polyurethane.
