Those of you who got your cars tinted at tint king did you let them install the tint protector felt or did they tell you that you didnt need it..

I wanted that and that was one of the major reasons I haven't gotten tint yet! I had no idea they offered the installation for that. I'm absolutely going to them to get my tint done (as planned) but now I'll be confident that it'll stay looking good. I'd definitely get it. How much are they charging for that?

I got mine tinted at Zeibart and they are scratched to shit! The first time I put the windows down and then back up, the rubber on the door made around 3 or 4 really thin scratches that went up along the entire window. You can't see it from the outside and its hard to see from the inside unless you are looking for them, but they are there. I've only had the tint for around 2 months now, but I am alittle worried about the long term impacts (if any). Oh well, $200 dollar investment that can be easily replaced

No.
The only time I wish I had installed it was for my old TSX. The design with the rubber piece was scratching my tint but no issues with my e92.

No on my E92, no scratches. Only an issue with pre-LCI E90s, at least from what I've heard.

I called Tint King earlier this afternoon for tints for my E92 335. I asked for 35% and he quoted me $230 for the base film and $280 for the higher end ceramic tint by Huper Optic. Aren't those hefty prices just for a coupe?! I want good quality tints and installation, but not for sucha pricetag. In addition, its a 30 mile drive away.. Any other suggestions?
Also, what is DOT matrix that I keep reading about? Thanks! Last edited by krazyking; 02-04-2012 at 11:05 PM.. |

I've taken my previous 6 cars to Tint King and have referred about a dozen people to them over the past 10 years. They're great guys who don't compromise their quality. Their prices are competitive amongst the top tier shops around The Hub, but you get what you pay for here...lifetime warranty on film (top brands) and craftsmanship, fast service, and a nice environment (these guys aren't sketchy dudes in a busted garage). I've only ever had to return once for a redo, and that was for 1 window. They said to bring it in and replaced it without question. You can surely go cheaper but they won't use the best film nor back up their work.
As for the dot matrix, if you look at the edges (esp the top) of your rear window you'll see the dot matrix. Film doesn't bond to that too well, so installers use a use a specialized strip of film along with the main film over it. I've had no issues with my tint and operating my windows. Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience with them. |

$280 for Huper Optic tint (ceramic) is completely reasonable. This is the best tint film for reduced cabin temps.
Suntech is a dyed film IIRC, and I'd stay away from it. Stick with undyed films from the major brands. Certain Llumar films are good, but not all. 3M is excellent quality, as is Johnston window films. Ask what each shop uses, and have them be very specific. In my opinion, the tint film brand/type, installation process and overall quality of install should be your primary driver for selecting a tint shop, not price. |

I think the scratching only affects sedans. You can order the mole skin stuff to prevent the scratches, cost is about $30 for enough to do all 4 windows
My sedan is scratched to hell, I ordered the felt lining, just too damn lazy to install it myself |
