Hi!

Just wanted to ask you about your rear diff. Did you use the m3 diff with sideshaft?

Did you only change the cv joint to m3 or did you used the whole shaft?

I am sorry for the topic hijack but i dont know where else to ask it.

I can buy a ''complete'' M3 DKG rear (about 60k) for a very good price. You can see the picture in my attachement.

Can someone take a look at it and tell me what other parts i will need to make the swap complete?

Thanks.

Take everything if you can, subframe with bushings and rods nice suspension upgrade. But for diff you need sideshafts, diff, and prop shaft which is not on the picture. Prop shaft has to be shortened and welded with your current prop shaft and balanced.

I suggest you to read the whole thread to get an idea to what you are doing. The price is very good for all those parts which you are getting.

+ the cost of rebuilding the M3 diff since the M owners are having to do rebuilds at 60-80 thousand miles. Just buy a quaife, wavetrack or OS giken

Rear axle complete £800
But that's where the conversion can lead you down a rabbit hole

I replaced brakes suspension brake lines and the bill depends on you taste

Labour for me was £800 but I lent a hand

I see a lot of posts referring to the 335i Auto prop shaft but I have a Manual 6 speed trans in my e92 335i. RealOEM shows my propshaft being 1471 / 1472mm in length and the Automatic Trans 335i having a 1472mm length propshaft.

The reason I ask is that I have already bought the M3 propshaft and wanted to know if I must buy an Auto 335i propshaft also or if my current propshaft on the car now will work to do the joining of the two M3 and 335i propshafts?

Also, just so I am clear. With regards to the rear axles/driveshafts going out to the tires from the M3 diff. If I were to only replace my diff with an M3 diff then I would need the longer (according to realoem) M3 driveshafts going out to the 335i hub assemblies and even though the M3 shafts are longer they will fit into my hubs?

Thanks!

Pretty sure you need to use the m3 axles with the 335 outer portion where it mates with the hub. Don't quote me on that, but I'm pretty sure that's what you have to do.

Interesting thread. Has anyone fitted the M3 diff to their E81/82/87?

I can get the diff, both side shafts and half the driveshaft from a wrecked E92 M3, for a lot less than the Quaife LSD.

What else do I need to do?

Here is my thread: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...9#post17383479

Hi guys
I read whole thread several times. Someone wrote that it is able to use drive shaft from E38 740i AT, is this shaft plug and play or it need some custom work too?
As far I read you need
M3 diff, whole side drive shafts, many times I read about M3 sub-frame, is tis necessary? I think this is only to upgrade suspension or you need it for different bolts pattern for M3 diff?

regards

Mark

I have done this swapmy self and all you need is the M3 Diff/Axles(half-shafts)/custom drive shaft.
YES IT WILL fit the 335i subframe as direct bolt on. REALLY EASY Swap!

The 740i shaft bolts up to to the M3 diff flange, so basically you hack the 335i shaft into two (along with the 740i shaft) and weld the front half of the 335i shaft to the rear of the 740i shaft.

Obviously this needs to be done by a drivetrain specialist, then after welding the shaft is balanced.

You need the m3 half shafts also, but I believe the M3 diff bolts into the non m3 subframe (its best if you can get the m3 subframe as most wreckers let them go for a small price and it has upgraded bushes)

Call up DSS (Drive Shaft Shop) they were the ones that did it for me, I don't recall the dimensions but they were spot on, after I installed and checked all the tolerances they measured out perfectly. They should be able to supply you with the exact length, it's just flange to flange. BTW I opted for the Carbon Drive shaft because the Aluminum one would not clear the drive shaft tunnel, so keep that in mind.
Hope this helps, Good Luck!

I'm doing this conversion and for anyone interested, I've measured the while length from flange to flange (outeside of the 335i gearbox flange to inside of the m3 diff flange) is 1426mm.
