Dipped headlight malfunction indication
2006 non-xenon 325i, started getting a dipped headlight malfunction indication but no failed bulbs. Bavarian Technic scanner sees no failures, and Matco Maximus doesn't either.
I have new bulbs arriving tomorrow, anything else it could be? |

I say dipped, because that is the icon that matches what I have on my dash based on a google search.
The icon is as follows: lines pointing downward from a left facing headlight icon with an exclamation mark in front of it. No, I am not sure it isn't the fog lamps, because every single light is working currently. |

My error looks like the low beam with an exclamation point in it. Thanks for posting the pictures, any idea why the bulbs would still be working, but have an error? They are Phillips brand headlights.

So I just changed the low beam (outer bulbs) out and still have the warning indication. While I was looking at the lights while they were on, I noticed that the small bulb that is mounted inside the high beam reflector wasn't lit on the passenger side.
Looking at how to get to that bulb makes this job look like a pain in the butt, I am not even sure how you do it, since i cannot see that far into the back of the headlight from the engine bay. |

Ok, to add to my last post, I just bought the little bulbs that go just to the inside of the high beam, and now both work, but I still have the malfunction.
I'm lost where to go next. |

I have my bavarian technic scanner, and a maximus pro scanner, neither shows a code on a normal scan.
What module in particular would trigger this warning? Maybe I can check the specific module for issues, even though it is unlikely since I am not getting any trouble codes. I have the base model headlights, no angel eyes or anything. That is what is getting me, everything appears to be working, however I still get the warning on startup. |

I believe the code you are getting is not for a bulb malfunction but for the leveling function where the bulb self levels via the car's front suspension linkage. There is a little part that connects the headlamp to the control arms (I think) that can come loose or break if you drive fast and hard into a deep pot hole.
