Winter Tyres

I just ordered a set of Vred Wintrac Extremes 225/45/17/V all round, for my 335d coupe and will be putting on some BMW 17" alloys.

If i can get the Bridgestone Runflats off does anyone know how much they would be worth if i sold them. I'm yet to measure them properly but there should have about 5, maybe even 6mm.

Just bought a set of 225x40x18 vredestein wintrac extremes for £539 delivered from mytyres.
Seems to be the best price at the mo...

If I didnt want to fork out on new wheels could I not fit 225/40/18 front and 255/40/18 on the rear on MV3s?

Why don't you just go the same size all round.A lot do,without issues-will be cheaper and stock is available now?Mine will be fitted to mv3's also...

No, a 255/40/18 will be too large a diameter and mess up your speedo and look daft.

You could go for 235/40/18 all round, but you'd be better finding OE sizes, i.e. 255/35/18 rear, but they are hard to get in winters.

I contemplated what you are saying i.e. swapping tyres, but it will cost you £60 or more each time to get your tyres swapped, thats £120 a year plus the risk of damage to rims and tyres.

Tyres aren't really meant to keep coming on and off all the time.

In the end I bought a set of new 18" MV3 reps, 8J all round for £300.

Brilliant - that's what I run, excact same size all round - you'll have a ball come winter!

Good price - I paid £599 last year from mytyres!!

sorry, am getting confused now.
My current tyres are the standard: Frt 225/40/18 & Rr 255/35/18

I am looking to change the tyres to the vredestein wintrac extreme, can I use the 225/40/18's on all 4 wheels? I ask as the 255/35/18's are not available from vredestein at present.

thanks Davy, so the wheel for the 255/35/18 will be able to take the 225/40/18 when i fit the winter tyre..

A place called wheelworx.net, give em a call, they dont list MV3 on their wbsite, but ring up.

Regarding the performance of rubber tyres on ice, I cannot find any freely available records of trials undertaken by anybody. I have a feeling that if you are on pure ice you wont stop until gravity slows you down or you hit something!

The Continentals turned up yesterday. One snag, only for 3 wheels.
The Wife, who took delivery, said:'its not a three wheeler you know'.
Driver said;'dont worry luv, it will turn up in due course'.
Wife said:'lets look in yer van'. But nothing there.
So, all we need now is the forth wheel and a bit of snow.

Can't wait! Cheers!

wheels ordered, got some 19" M5 reps and also ordered some wintracs 235/35/19 from mytyres.com, price for tyres was £585 delivered.

So i should now be good for this winter, knowing my luck they'll be no snow and it'll be 20c everyday!!

How many days did it take from dispatch ?

Mine is coming in 2 separate shipments too. How were they packed as my shipment tracking says unpacked tyre! Hope it doesn't pick up any nicks in transport.

Mine came the following day and were in two packs of two tyres,wrapped in semi toughened plastic and in perfect condition
