W37V I swear I saw you had some videos on the installation of MILVs... I can't seem to find them. Do you still have those?

edit: NVM, found them. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-d...OYONlLF1LLrJHA

Never got to editing them, so quality is crap. But it should cover the basics.

Can't wait to install them along with the 3SM and headers next month. Need to book a dyno session now for stock vs. these mods about to go down.

Maybe this is a philosophical question, but why isn't the motor configured like this to begin with, with additional lift? Is there any sort of mechanical advantage to the stock supports?

The only advantage I can think of from the stock supports might be better fuel economy at full throttle. Don’t really see that as an advantage lol

Don’t forget BMW wasn’t trying to make the most power it could for the N52. They wanted our motors to be an order of magnitude weaker than the 335 turbo motors and intentionally castrated the 328i N52 down from the 330i.

The most common things we do to make power like 3IM, Headers (Specifically Euro Headers), and MILV’s (more valve lift) are likely the exact same things they would have done were they actually looking to make the most power from the N52 motor.

BMW was targeting a specific power output (300nm of torque from 3 liters, actually), and the design met those goals as-is. Also they used the same design on multiple engines (N52, N55, S55), so it's cheaper to make them all the same.

All we are doing is increasing the rocker ratio - which is basically a multiplier of cam lift. If stock was 1.2:1, these might be something like 1.3:1 (I'm just making up numbers for illustration, but it's close). So if the cam lift is 8mm, lift at the valve will be 9.7mm with the stock rocker ratio, and ~10.5mm with the MILVs (again, making up these numbers, although they are close).

Of course you can't just increase the rocker ratio to say, 1.5:1, because there are physical limits to what will actually work without redesigning the entire system. Marty's design is really clever because of how simple it is.

Any update on getting a final dyno done on this badass setup? Did you ever do a dyno before the mods or at any other time?

I reached out to the shop again few days ago and they never responded. Not sure what the hell is going on with them.

The only reason why I didn’t change shops yet is because I did my previous runs with them. Using the same machine should provide consistency and better comparison (apples to apples).

I will call them and see what’s going on.

Can anyone forward me to the euro headers? I have been looking around and can only find the aftermarket catless ones and the AFE ones.

If it's anything like me, I feel the biggest gains are in the 2000-4000rpm range when you have all that extra torque to play with. I really don't have a change to go WOT often, so the added low end power is welcome. Though, it does pull pretty hard at top end too.

Seriously dude? Why would you post this in this thread when there are many many many more appropriate threads to post it in?

That’s where you feel most of the tq gains.

I haven’t seen a dyno showing milvs difference gains yet, so this will be exiting to see.

After driving on it for a few weeks, no joke, when the 3 stage activates, my butt dyno feels the cae pull stupid hard at top end. Lower end is also very lovely. Finally managed to chirp the wheels too! Will take some more practice to get those good shift points down. Anyways, these are the way to go.

Do you have a tune for them? If not, they do nothing.

I know this, and trust me, I had the tune in my email before I got the car back.

After I installed the MILVs and flashed the BPC tune I have been having reduced power at WOT. At about 40% throttle my car has great torque and it pulls hard, but if you push the accelerator pedal any further, the engine bogs down and revs slower and has less power. I have the same issue after resetting the throttle adaptation values. I can flash the back up DME file and the car runs fine, just a little disappointed that BPC will not look at the tune file again for me after $750 spent, and they'll charge me again to dyno the car to figure out what is wrong with the tune. I'm just gonna go with AA products from now on.

Have you contacted BPC to see if they can resolve the issue? Its the weekend, so maybe they just haven't seen your message yet?

What codes are you getting?

Reset all the adaptations with INPA - including Valvetronic, then do the relearn procedure.

This is important. And there is no AA equivalent of this tune.
