And did they get an engine code or just replace it? Some of the n55 owners had their hpfp replaced with no codes...

Please educate me on what the benefit of getting an engine code is. Looking at the service report, I can't tell, but I don't see anything about an engine code. I'm guessing they just replaced it.

okay, I've been following this thread for some time. Myself is a 05/2010 built 335i owner. Luckily has passed that date line.
Anyhow, I have realised that we all just focused too much on the pump itself. HAve you thought about the "fuel" we actually put into our cars everyday? I used to fuel my car with the top-notch 94 in Canada, had a few times couldn't start off my car, but with no engine failure light on. Even since the sales told me that BMW Canada "Recommends" Shell and Petrol Canada, I've got little issues. Well apart from some slightly hesitated starts. Is there an issue that is related to the fuel pump? |

Yes, the fuel may be the cause, the process to remove sulpher from diesel fuel corrodes and destroys the HPFP seals, the same thing may be happening with the refinery process for north american gasoline.
Do they also have mass failures in Europe or anywhere outside of NA and Australia? |

The HPFP failed on my 2011 335i xDrive coupe (N55; build date of 4/11). I was getting long cranks (around 5,000 miles), I took it in, and they replaced the HPFP. The comment by the SA was, "We weren't happy," along the lines of "We know it's been a problem with the N54s, we were hoping it had gone away with the N55s." I think the incident rate is way down, but it's still an issue with the newer engines.

Come on BMW fix this damn thing. Put your engineers in a room and promise them anything; beer, porn, battlefield 3. Just get the job done!

Ok, well I've got about 16000 miles on mine so far and I haven't had not even one long crank. These have been city miles too. I only fill up with Sunoco 93 but that shouldn't make a difference.

I have a 2011 335 with 3500 miles and most recently when I start it up the idle "surges" I guess thats the best way to explain it. Its not normal idling even when its cold...Could this be an upcoming fuel pump issue? Would it be worth it to bring it to BMW?
Thanks |

my car has been has been taking a long time to start 4-5 sec. Took it in for oil change and told SA. He ran diagnostics and told me the fuel pressure was low and he had to order a fuel pump.
My car is a 2011 bmw 335 e92 with 14500 miles. I know this is a old thread but I would like to know if people are still having problems with fuel pumps after replacing on N55 motor. If so I am going to trade my car in and buy another car. I don't want to deal with problems. |

mine was replaced at the 30k mile checkup.
Is BMW replacing it with a new one of the same make/model/design or are they replacing it with new design. I'm asking because I'm curious to know if I should expect it to fail again. |

E90 N55 HPFP failure
I know this an old thread but I needed to do some reading up on the HPFP issues as I suspect that my is gone.
My question is there any good after market ones that will out last the stock ones from BMW? I also see some being sold on ebay stating that I will even get a rebate if I send in back my old one. I see in the N55 turbo upgrade there is an after market upgraded fuel pump added for extra fuel delivery. I really dont need extra fuel delivery as I doubt I will be making 700HP for now but could the application be used for mild mods? Please need some good advise |
