New E91 335i Touring Owner

After well over a year of searching and a couple of near misses I finally found a 335i E91 M Sport Touring Manual with my perfect spec. Well I wanted folding mirrors as well but that was more than worth compromising on

Its a late 2006 06 in Black Sapphire Metallic with the following Spec.

Manual Gearbox
Lemon Dakota Leather Trim
Front Armrest
Poplar Trim
Panoramic Roof
Front Seat Heating
High Beam Assist
Xenon's
Professional Nav
Logic 7 Hi Fi
Bluetooth
Sun Protection Glass
Voice Control

I found it for sale week before last through my daily look at Autotrader online and couldn't believe the spec and it only had 65k miles. I phoned up immediately and made an appointment to view the next day. Test drive and inspection revealed very little faults and a deal was struck. Picked it up a week ago and all I can say is it was most definitely worth all the waiting

Had a post purchase inspection on it yesterday and it needs new front discs, pads and sensors, new rear shocks and the rear tyres are wearing on the inside, but other than that it's in great health.

So now looking at upgraded suspension, brakes and 19"s

A few pics:

Nice motor. Pity you didn't find out about the brakes and shocks before you agreed the purchase price!

Thanks. I knew the brakes needed doing but the guy was totally uninterested in any negotiation at all unfortunately. He said the phone had rung off the hook on it and he even had a call on it on our test drive. Or that was all probably clever salesmans banter and staging!

^^^ I've had it open every day since I got it ! If you crank it all the way open you get some buffeting but with the rear windows cracked a bit it goes away.

Waiting for my first mods to turn up today, although they will be very small ones, some OEM black grilles and a replacement steering wheel trim cover.

You're on a slippery slope mate!! I started off with some black grilles then progressed onto everything else!

Nice, love my manual 335i e91 also. Brakes & suspension are things you'd change anyways so i wouldn't worry about it. I'd recommend Eibach Pro springs with Bilstein shocks. Got Koni Yellow s on mine and just had to replace the rears as both had severely corroded & one had completely failed, the strut was literally just flopping around pissing out oil.

Don't have Bilsteins on mine as I got more Konis to match the fronts, however looking into it at the time, Bilstein B12's were the recommended option I think. But I already had Eibach Pros on so figured go with Konis till the fronts need replacing and then get Bilsteins all round.

Finished work, cracked open a beer and got on with my first evening of sorting the 335i. It's been a while since I've had a car I've wanted to work on, my last car I had for 2 years and other than clean it I did zero mods !

First job was a good clean, this black car is a terror to keep clean !

Obligatory snow foam shot

Then did the grilles which has made a big difference and was the only bit of chrome on the car.

Silver

cleaned

Black

Then on to the exhausts, the right hand was really bad, so had to go down to 120 grit paper to get all the baked on soot off then up through the grades onto wirewool and autosol. Left one was just autosol and wire. They look good from a distance but are pitted close up.

Before

After

Interior jobs next................

Thanks :-)

I've put this in the technical forum but thought I'd ask here as well.

I want the Performance BMW Exhaust but it's cost prohibitive so going to try and get another standard exhaust system and get the PE Hack done to it. WHat I'm wondering is can I get any E9X 335i exhaust and chop the back box off and re-use or does it have to be an E91 specific system. The E91 has a central silencer where as the E90, 92 and 93 don't.

Also are there any differences between exhausts from an auto car or a manual car.

E91 exhaust

E90, 92, 93 exhaust

Have you thought about Blacklines; Sorting out your rear tail lights?

I like the stock ones, but not specifically seen a pic of the blacklines on a black e91.

Need new discs and pads on the front so been thinking about all sorts of brake upgrades. Ideally I'd like the F series M Performance calipers but that's all a bit expensive, so thinking of some upgraded discs, found these, and think they'd look great with a caliper refurb. What a shame the £ - $ is so rubbish at the mo.
