I have one for local car meet communication. That's all I do on it. I don't post, click, or like other people's stuff. I use messenger on occasion.

That said, it's a sewer. An abattoir of intellect and reasonable behavior and is, in large part, responsible for the decline in civility in society, the lack of interpersonal skills among the young, and the shrill voices of ignorance that occupy our collective consciousness and lower us as a society.

Other than selling/buying car parts via some of the groups, it's nothing but bad IMO.

Originally signed up a LONG time ago to see if a college buddy that disappeared was there. Then found my cousin who I lost touch w/ a long time ago. Found both. I consider these good things. Then, however, the obligatory high school alumni friend requests started coming in and you could tell some were just being nosy and/or it was all about the # of 'facebook friends'. Then came drama from people that couldn't move on over a decade later (lady friend stuffs). I was never active on FB anyways aside from an occasional PM so the latter was just the nails in the coffin. My account has been dormant for an extremely long time....should just close it.

Personally, I don't see a reason to further give my information, my likes/dislikes, etc... to a giant data aggregator/marketer/miner. Bad enough w/ Google and other companies mining/using/selling PII. Makes me laugh that people rail against USG for it, but freely throw it at tech companies. I'm not a "keeping up w/ the Jones' person, I like what I like, and don't care what celebrities have to say......so, no....all this social media is not a good thing when people make it so integral to their persona and modus operandi. /IMHO

You mean Facecrack or Fakebook. Social media is simply for people that want to self promote themselves in order solicit likes and comments. Most so called Facebook friends follow you to simply nose in on what you're up to. Once they fill that need they could care less. No thanks. I still like to talk to my friends. I choose them well that way.

I'd rather choose my friends rather than have random people stalking me.

Agreed, I like to talk to my friends. Nothing beats face to face interaction. A few years ago I dated a girl who was constantly on her phone and on facebook. I'd go to her apartment and she would be sitting at the table with her friends and they would all be on their phones liking each others posts. We'd go out to dinner and she would be reading her facebook posts while ordering food. She was cute but it was a huge turnoff, like dating a zombie.

Instagram is pretty bad also.

I watched a documentary on facebook not too long ago where one of the original creators stated that he knew what they were doing was wrong. Likes = dopamine boosters therefore each time someone gets a like, they get a little boost of "fake self esteem" which causes them to go back to facebook and literally look at all the likes/comments. Each minute that you spend on facebook equates to a dollar amount for them. He was stated in saying that they honestly want people to spend as much of their life on facebook as possible, deterring people from real life.

I'm not one to use*Facebook*in the typical fashion. In 2007 I set up a fakebook account and used it to join groups that I found beneficial. Some of these groups have been fantastic and really helpful, like the quit smoking page or my local hiking group. My amateur soccer team uses a page to keep track of what players can or can't make the games. I also belong to a photography group where I have learned a lot and have met great people. My point being it's not all bad, it depends on how you use it.

I dropped FB 10 months ago and do not miss it one bit. I found it taking too much of my mind and was completely trolling my mood with all the liberal loons and conspiracy rights wingers. Not to mention it is amazing the data that FB collects about you. I don't have any of the social media platforms now other than LinkedIn.

I got sick of it. People in my network only wanted to post how good their life was. Then I was stalked. My account was hacked. I saw my sister in law crying over not having enough likes... and I thought my life is almost in the hands of people I know nothing about ie. The Facebook group. They have more data on me than I feel comfortable with but I had become complacent. Uploading my life. I couldn't be myself and I found friends no longer made the effort. So I deleted it. It takes a conscious effort for someone to pick up the phone and call. Since I am no longer on there they cannot just message and not meet. Someone once said though... if you want your phone to ring make other phones ring! I don't miss FB one bit. People still ask me if I am on there and some people are annoyed I am not.

Facebook is designed to steal as much of your time as possible. They hire people to make it as addictive as possible. We're all becoming social media zombies, myself included. People are checking their phones more than ever even when there is no notification, just to see if their picture/post got likes, etc...

However, it's a great tool to connect with family, friends, other car guys... the marketplaces are awesome.

Use it in moderation?

In my opinion, FaceBook can even cause depression for some people.

I have a technical account for facebook only, it is only needed for marketing and for the site. The rest - it's just wasted time.
