Idle temperature.
Guys
Is it normal for the coolant temperature to reach 97°C when idle ? I've noticed this when I got an obd2 reader. When I put the A/C on it could drop down to 87°C. Car is a 320d. Thanks. |

Normal.
Can't speak to specifics of your engine, but I can confirm those numbers are about right for an N52. Fluctuations like what you experienced are normal as well. The thermostats are map-controlled, so the DME exercises some control opening and closing.

if it's not giving you the overheat symbol on the dash don't worry about it.
bmw deleted the temperature gauge from the cluster, and that's because it changes depending on engine load and most people would have freaked out about it. |
