335xi wheel help

Hi guys,

I recently bought some Alzor style 030 staggered wheels for my 335xi. Fronts are 18x8 and rear is 18x9. I paired those up with some Michelin pilot sport all season tires (225/40/18 front, 255/35/18 rear). As far as I know, this is the factory spec for staggered wheels. I have another set of wheels with this exact same configuration and they work well on the car but my Alzor wheels have been causing a stuttering issue.

I know how sensitive the AWD system is on these cars, I made sure to do my due diligence with checking the rolling diameter and whatnot but I'm still having this issue. Anyone know what could be wrong?

That isn't factory spec. But it looks like youre within the rolling diameter spec (0'4%)

You may be having a transfer case issue. is the drivetrain sort of stuttering/skipping?

I say factory spec as in, atleast with my car, the door jam where it lists the sizes and air psi state front - 225/40/18 and rear - 255/35/18. 09' 335xi if that helps, I believe that might be due to a certain package or trim but I'm not too sure.

The drivetrain is stuttering, I've had my fair share of issues with this in the past when I tried putting on other wheels that didnt follow the rolling diameter spec. The weirdest part is that I have a pair of style 436 wheels with the exact same setup and they work flawlessly. the only difference is that the rear has an ET of 38 while my current rears have an ET of 35, but I dont see why that would cause an issue.

Air pressure is also good to go, brand spanking new wheels and tires

I had diameters out of whack (~1.5%) front to rear, and I think I did damage my TC. Ended up replacing it after putting the correct rolling diameter back on. Similar symptom - kind of a juddering, clutch-slipping type of driveline feeling.

So that certainly could be the problem. If the other wheels aren't a problem, obviously the right solution now is to run the ones that don't give you symptoms.

Are the tires stretched substantially different between each wheel option? That's my best guess so far, that maybe the tires are the right spec, but they're stretched differently, which is throwing off the diameter math.

I've had tire issues for the whole time I've owned this car lol. Tires that came on it had one that was cracked and not repairable, the one that I picked up to replace it was a different size. The other staggered set that I have has two bent front wheels which was also deemed not repairable. Such a shame. Really wanted the looks of the 359's without the cost, so I might end up just getting xdelete for a while until I find something suitable in the future.
