N57 325d Coolant Temp High?
Hi, I had a search and couldn't find anything specific to this, most threads comment on when it's low.
I parked up at work and heard the fan still running when I had switched the engine off and got out, this happens semi regularly so I wasn't concerned but I do like to check the coolant temp in menu 7 (this is coolant and not oil temperature?) when this happens. When I checked it was sitting at 101c, is this normal? I have seen it as high as 97/98c before but never 100+, my work commute is only around 6 miles or so of motorway driving and it wasn't driven any harder than normal. Car seems fine and nothing is showing on the dash so I am thinking I may have cut it off mid DPF regen or something but I'd like to see if anyone else has had this on their 325d/330d LCI's? Cheers. |

Mine does this sometimes, can be hot outside temps and air con on but I think normally it’s just part of the regen process at a guess, the n57 is a lot better at regens then the m57 it seems

Cheers, yeah it was warm already, something like 22c outside at 8:30. I didn't have the air con on just the fans. I thought it was probably okay but it seemed super high compared to normal, I haven't really been able to pinpoint any consistency with running temps. Some days it sits about 89/90 and up to around 93c and some days its 95+
What temp does yours tend to sit around? Seems we have the exact same car mines a 60 plate e91 |

I don’t check mine that often tbh, I just check it now and again to make sure it’s hitting it’s temps to ensure the thermostats are okay.
It mine are generally the same as yours though, not checked it while regenning before but I popped the bonnet when I interrupted it and the engine bay is baking! The head coming off the dpf is impressive! |

Yeah I do the same, occasional checks to make sure it's running okay. Sounds like it's probably normal then, I will keep an eye on it the next few drives and see, I do a mix of trips as my commute is only short and I do a lot of running around town to Tesco and what not but usually have a long trip every week or two as well

Sometimes when I get home from a shortish journey my fans are still running when I switch the engine off. Its because it's part way through a regen which means the temperature has been raised so the regen can be carried out. Nothing to worry about. If you are concerned just take it for a decent run so that a full regen can successfully complete.

Yeah I thought as much. Sometimes the fans stay on even after a long run and when the temp isn't at anything overly high maybe 92c or so, fairly sure it's not mid regen at the time either as it's had an hour + on the motorway to do that. But I think they do that sometimes regardless to assist cooling the turbo? I read that elsewhere so not sure if it's true or not!
