N52 + Race Fuel
Has anyone ever run race fuel in their 325/ 328/ 330?
Like 97, 100 and up octane? US spec not other parts of the world where it is measured in RON Curious if it would really do much. I know boosted cars love it and can benefit and run higher boost and adjust timing. What is the max octane our engine will adapt for, and what sort of benefits can be had? We have a decent compresion ratio, like 10.8 to 1 I think but just curious. Last edited by RupertPupkin; 04-10-2012 at 06:52 PM.. |

This was on an E46 M3
http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=36246 Dude says our cars seem to "max out at 96-96 octane." Wonder if most raod cars, or bmws have tuning built in to take advantage of a 95 octane fuel. Might try some just for shits and giggles to see |

AA told me that if I ran 50/50 race and 93 oct, power would jump.

Theoretically any car would benefit from higher octane, just some more than others considering gas now a days is so shitty.. N52 already have a 10:7 compression ratio so it cant hurt by any means, a few gallons would do..no need for more than 5 tops IMO

Yea I would assume it would take some time to adapt, and well see. Might not do it. I was just curious if anyone has done it and if it made any sort of difference, or if they had any problems.

I was mainly curious because of all the threads on here with people trying to get the 3 stage manfiold, tunes, etc.
It seemed weird no one really mentioned trying race fuel. Obviously expensive, but for the thousands spent on manifold and tune and header, wouldn't you top it off with race fuel to see what the max these N52 can put out? |

Stock N52 ignition mapping is actually fairly aggressive. So is the stock knock sensitivity. I think you would notice something, but am unsure how much - or if it would be worth it. $9 a gallon is pretty expensive.
also I wouldn't do it if you have stock headers/cats. |

Yes, when I tracked last year. Can't tell if it made a diff. I want to run a blend and dyno, but my financials suck this year.

I doubt that it would be much different on a stock ECU. Just burns faster....
I feel ya on that! BTW your build sounds sick, got any pictures?

Thanks man! Coin has been low since Xmas since I went all out then I got a speeding ticket, then I had to go to weddings, then my wife got into an accident and I had to do some home repairs and put a new battery in the E90. Fuck this year, I want it to end already!

Man that was spent in 2017 the year prior and was carefully planned for installation early last year.
