Shock mishap

Was trying to get the top nut off my shock. I had the 6mm ratchet holding the top of the shock why trying to wrench off the nut. Then all of a sudden the 6mm stud at the top snapped off. What can I do now to get it off.... Is cutting the nut off my only option.

Impact wrench?

Are you replacing the shock? A big pair of vice grips should do the trick on the shaft in wheel well.

Yes I`m replacing the shock. Yea I`ll try the impact gun. Also where would I attach the vice grips to, where I would normally use a wrench getting the bottom nut off?

Underneath the boot on the piston rod... I dont recall if the boot rises enough when lifted to gain access or if you will need to cut it away. Since they are getting tossed it doesn't matter if you destroy the boot or damage the chrome finish.

Well when the car is jacked up, you still can`t see the steel rod. And the new KYB shocks I`m ordering do not come with new boots...

Hopefully the Impact Gun trick works or good bye nut!! LOL

I guess I could order new boots at $11.60 each. Might save me a headache.

ah dang. Whatever way you choose hope it all works out! Hate these speedbumps on otherwise not that difficult jobs!

That's exactly what I did after and it worked!!! Got the shock out and the bolt is now off and I can remove the shock now. Man the shock is so bad that when I compress it down, it don't return back up. Crazy.
