steering wheel shakes back and forth on highway

So is this symptom unbalanced wheels? OR an alignment needed?

Usual culprit is wheel balancing (tire flat spot, lost wheel weight, rim irregularity). Could also be alignment (toe), steering not centered, play in your front control arms. Did you hit anything recently?

Other choices are a bubble in the sidewall (tire separation) or bent rim. (I guess "irregularity" would cover that!)
