Hood release cable casing cracking

So pic says it all. I've since wrapped it in oem wire harness wrap. So 1) is this impending doom or am I worrying about nothing 2) Will wrapping it mitigate any issues? or 3) is the part and install easy enough that I should just do it?

They all do it. You can replace but it’ll just happen again. Easy to replace if you really feel the need to. Put it low down on the priority list.

So you're saying wrapping it has fixed this for the time being?

Install does seem straight-forward. Thanks.

I just usually oil the metal when I see this, the oil will hopefully seep into the cable

If the driver-side cable can be separated from the latch side, in the box, you might try a long piece of 3x shrinkfit on the cable. 3x has a very large shrink ratio when heated. Effectively replace the cable jacket.
