Replacing Clutch/Flywheel what else should I replace?
Hey guys and gals, I have an 330i RWD (6spd obviously) and was going to take the car to an INDY shop to get the DMF swapped to a jb racing flywheel and clutch kit. I would like some advice on what else I should get done while the trans is out. Car has 200k on it.
My intention while the trans is out is to replace clutch kit (flywheel, PP, disc) upgrading the plastic to a metal pivot pin guibo center support bearing should i do rear main seal? anything else im missing? I can do most work on a car, but lacked the proper lift to remove a trans and felt the labor cost, quoted $800, would be well worth it for the clutch kit install. I didnt want to drop the front subframe down and for $800... lets go! my intention is to drive this car until the wheels fall off. I love it. 330i msport. Thanks in advance everyone. |

Whatever you do don't use a brass/bronze pivot pin, I installed one when I replaced my clutch and regret it. It creaks like a bitch and wore out really fast, some people have reported that they are worn to complete nubs in ~20k miles.

N52 car?
Don't forget a set of aluminum bellhousing screws. Might want to get the steel ones too, they are cheap. X2 on skipping the brass rocker pin. I wouldn't touch the rear main seal unless you think it's leaking. They last a VERY long time, and it's quite easy to botch the install. Replace the plastic/rubber items in the gear select linkage? You almost certainly need a gear select shaft seal. Every BMW for the last 50 years leaks there after 25k. Perhaps have transmission in/out shaft seals in case you find leaks?

I second what @Brian86 said. The lever pin is made from Delrin plastic, which is about the toughest shit on earth. It's self-lubricating, so no maintenance required.
Any professional mechanic will not touch the rear main seal if it is not leaking because there is a 50/50 chance the new one may leak upon installation. It's best to just leave it alone. Same for the center support bearing. If it is working correctly, leave it alone. They are a bitch to install. Expect some of the 330i's refinement to go away with a single-mass flywheel. |

Which clutch and pressure plate are you pairing with the JB Racing flywheel? I'm looking to use the Valeo kit but haven't found anyone else who's done this yet.
Link to the Valeo kit WITHOUT their SMF. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...t-valeo-828533 Last edited by blnk-128; 03-13-2024 at 09:31 AM.. |

I went with the valeo kit. I have 20 miles on it right now so I haven't had WOT over 3500 yet but it feels so good. Way faster to Rev.
About the single mass refinement blah blah, who cares? I don't mind the chatter at idle for the trade off of the insanely light feeling car |
