I have procured all the parts to do the full alphabet delete. I have the EGR block off plates in hand, the downpipe on order and the tune lined up. I will wait until my warranty runs out to make any of the modifications. Cannot wait until November 1.

I have to agree with Yozh. I did alphabet 7 months before my warranty expired. Though I was taking a chance, I had 32,000 miles and felt it was too early for CBU to come about in that small remaining warranty window. I wanted to halt any further accumulation from a soot standpoint. I'm now 3 months past warranty end. I have been inside EGR housing 2 times since deletes. I really like how clean it stays now. To each his own in terms of the risk trade. Perhaps it depends on how high your miles are relative to warranty end. If I had been at 55,000 miles, it's an easy choice to wait for the SES light. I will be pulling intake some time this summer to look at accumulation. A clean intake is already waiting in the wings

If nothing has changed on your car your likely to be in need of a cbu again. Supposedly according to my service advisor BMW has devised a test now to determine if a carbon build up is sever enough to warrant cleaning. You might give your sa a call and see if they'll run the test given your cars history. If for anything piece of mind. |

Is it as simple as walking into a dealership and asking to check for CBU? If not, does it sound reasonable to ask to check for accumulation in the intake manifold at least? |

My statement about wanting the CBU covered under warranty is a morbid wish that I get the SES light right before the warranty runs out. |

I'm in the same boat as the rest of you hoping for the SES to come on so I can get the CBU cleaning before my warranty runs out. Cognitive dissonance at its finest.
Car's never been cleaned. I'm at 58K and have CPO warranty until September 2016 or 100K so I'm pretty sure I'll get the light before time is up. I'll start to really get nervous if it hasn't happened by this time next year. |

I think one of the codes that has come up is EGR insufficient flow. That's an easy one. Roughness I don't think so. Injector codes from unplugging them would be easy, but I don't think they would mistake that for the zero adaptation codes

I agree. Any interrupted electrical circuit error code shows up as different. Unplugging anything will not work. But to get EGR insufficient flow would be fairly easy.

I really do enjoy mine, great freeway machine. So take my experience with a grain of salt. The dealer service advisory (for what this is worth) says that BMW NA has an automated test they run for CBU severity. They won't clean CBU unless the car has a presistent SES due to CBU, or it fails the pressure drop test. A tech can perform a pressure drop (not exact words) test across the intake and if there is too much pressure drop, BMW will flag the car as needing a CBU. I purchased my 335d in early april (4/3) with 29K on the clock. Thinking since it had a CBU cleaning, EGR replaced, DPF replaced and SCR, that it should be good for a while. Haha, I just had the EGR replaced again due to it not closing correctly (insufficient MAF airflow vs predicted 4862) a week ago. Two days later the SES was back on, now for implausible exhaust pressure upstream of turbine pressure too low, DPF and measured MAF compared to calculated too low (again). Dealer scratched their head a few days and called in BMW NA engineers. Now they are replacing the vacuum lines replaced because the previous chimps at the stealer kinked the vacuum lines while replacing the DPF. BMW NA thinks these issues are due to vacuum problems. This is my 2rd SES in 2 months. Out of the 8 weeks I've owned the car, its been at the dealer for ~2+ weeks, for SES, not including other issues. I don't think replacing the vaccum line will fix the errors. Fortunately mine is under factory warranty until April 2016 Good luck! Last edited by Thecastle; 06-01-2015 at 07:10 AM.. |

I love the low end torque. The only thing that caught me by a surprise was the low rpm. I am not sure if i have a heavy right foot or if the road from louisiana to california are a lot of hills, but i only avg 31 mpg. My d has 35000 miles on the clock. It drives amazing so I dont think I have a cBU, but ill probably remove yhe intake manifold myself and see if i can find any cbu. Im not sure whether to feel happy that the car has no issues or to feel sad that i likely wont get any warranty work before the warranty period. |
