Ah that explains why dealer doesn't know. I wonder if you can use separate jack (from headphone) and normal Ipod->PC usb i.e. two cables?

i guess so, it wouldn't be a line-out but it should work as far as i know?

have you got a docking station? doesn't that have a line-out and a usb?

The difference with the new 6FL Ipod integration option is that the car now comes with a USB port and the standard 3.5mm "headphone" style jack in the armrest. What this has over other aftermarket options is that the Ipod is now controlled through the radio interface. You have access to playlists, searches, things of that nature...without touching the Ipod itself in the armrest. Unlike all the aftermarket options that make you plug in a male-male 3.5mm jack and use the radio as an Aux port and you have to control your musci through the Ipod interface.

See this thread for a pic of the adapter cable:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=45991&page=12

EDIT: oh yeah...forgot to mention. My car DID arrive with the USB adapter...it's essentially lets you plug a USB memory device into the car and have all of your MP3's "mapped" to the radio interface so you can listen to them as well. See the .pdf file others have linked.

It would appear BMW has released this new option built into it cars but failed in actually releasing the cable to the dealerships so it can be included in the automobile when it's picked up. I can understand why it's not added at the factory...as I would imagine many "disappear" during the vehicles journey to it's destination...but not having them in dealerships when the cars arrive is criminal in my opinion. People are spending quite a bit of their hard earned money only to get a vehicle that is not "whole" in my opinion. It has definately affected my purchase experience in a negative way. Nothing to do with my dealership...as they did not know much about this new option...but BMW is going to get an "ear full" when my purchase survey comes around.

Further info. Someone else managed to find a part number (can't remember who...but I give him credit) for the Cable Adapter for Apple IPod. My local dealer refuses to help me until they get in a the new parts CD....but for everyone else with 6FL here in the U.K.

Picked up car on Friday 13th (Lucky for Me), and collected the cable adapter kit, which I'd ordered beforehand.

This fully integrates the iPod into the USB/AUX connection, with the iPod name, Playlists, Genres, Artists etc. appearing in the Sat nav screen.

It's totally worth the £40, as it has some kind of electronics in the box between the iPod and the twin cable to the AUX and USB.

For those of you that have got/orderd the 6FL option, you need to ask for part number 61 12 0 422 099 or "Cable adapter for Apple iPod"

When I'm feeling brave, I'll break open the black box to see if it's possible to make a cheaper clone, although at .001% of the car's price, it doesn't seem worth the bother.

This seems completely bogus - given that the BMW pdf linked to in this thread clearly states that in the USA the cable is INCLUDED in the option.

The PDF seems quite clear that one is included. For those that have bought one, have you tried challenging your dealers with it?

Challenging?

I'd print it out, roll it up, bash them over the head with it and only stop when they gave me the cable.

My dealer seemed to accept that he had to get me one but I haven't heard from him in weeks, might get in touch.

Weeks? I'd be pestering them non-stop! Ordering a cable can't be that time consuming

Just noted that in the Spring edition of BMW magazine it says that all new 1,3,5 series will come with USB socket as standard which allows music to be listed and played through iDrive/Professional radio (see page 92).

Still trying to find out if my early April build e92 will have this fitted or not - I didn't order 6FL and had been regretting it of late.

Yep - saw that in the BMW mag as well. Fingers crossed that my May delivery car will have it as I would really like the feature but am not prepared to pay over £200 for a £2 USB port

I've just ordered my car, and the aux in comes as standard, but they weren't aware of a USB port?

I ordered the 6FL and also pre warned them about the cable, they have got it on order and it will be in before my car is delivered.

There was no mention of cost? I have to agree with the others when you are spending nearly £40K on a car, they can throw the cable in!!!

I think the £200 versus £2 USb port, is based on the fact that they have to include an interface for the ipod as well. I have seen some of the I drive picks where all the playlists load into it and it looks awesome, can't wait to try it!

Be a bit gutting if they start including it as standard when you've payed for the option.
