Did this indy rip me off?

Hello,

Picked up a 2011 328i and trying to learn the ins and outs. I havent worked on cars before so bear with me. This forum has been tremendously helpful, and thanks to you guys just did the OFHG today.

I am wondering if a shop actually did the work I paid for. 5 mos and 1.5k miles ago I had an indy shop do a brake fluid flush, oil change, power steering flush.

Yesterday another indy shop did an inspection and found the power steering fluid dark, brake fluid moisture > 4%. I changed the OFHG today and oil was real dark (with some metal pieces too). Makes me question whether they did anything and whether I have enough info to demand that they do it again. Any thoughts?

PS fluid is CHF-11 and is dark green when fresh. DOT 4 Brake fluid is almost clear in color, so at 5 months it should be still very clear with light yellowish coloring (depends on the brand used). 4% water content is usually considered contaminated. Engine oil gets dark within a few minutes after being changed, there is residual old oil in the oil pump that does not drain and colors the fresh oil. Good news is the shop used a MANN filter at least.

Thanks. Looks like the brake fluid moisture may be the only think I can go after them for. I'll see what they say. Thanks for your input, much appreciated.

The power steering fluid filter is built into the reservoir. The fluid will turn dark quickly unless that was replaced too. IMO, just replacing the fluid is fine and you shouldn't sweat the filter.

........man, you picked the wrong car ....these 335i's aren't for people who don't know how to turn their own wrenches. If you have to take your car to an Indy for service work.... it's going to cost you a fortune.

Except he said he's got a 328i.

To the OP, I'd be more concerned about the metal particles in the oil than anything else right now. Surprised no one else mentioned that.

Also not too sure that's a MANN filter - maybe.

I doubt any indy actually flushes the power steering rack.

They change the fluid in reservoir and lines and done deal.
