Yellow Car on Lift Icon, multiple codes
2011 328i, 159k mi.
Multiple codes so I'm having trouble making sense of everything. I'm also getting an occasional yellow battery icon on the dash. Battery is reading 11.7 inside the car and 12.4 in the trunk with the engine off. When the engine running, battery reads 14.5 inside and 14.7. This is with a/c off, fan off and at idle. This is the original battery and the car starts with no problem. iCarsoft scanner, BM Multi-system Scanner i910-II reads DTC 3103A28: no description DTC A559 Supply was switched off 0001A56F: no description SW-V8.0 SS390805 Part Number 6862873 Coding Index 0F Diagnosis Index 05B1 Variant Index 4C41 Hardware Number 02 The scanner says something about my footwell module. I have searched for similar problems and the consensus was a battery replacement. What is going on, is it the footwell module for me, the battery, or something else entirely? Thanks |

Switch off engine, turn on headlights for couple minutes. turn off headlights, check battery voltage. 12.0V or less - your battery is almost dead. Consider quality AGM unit if you plan to keep car for 3+ years. TL; DR Mine had similar symptom's. The voltage would read 12.4V, but quickly drop below 12.0V under some load after a minute or two. 14.7V is max allowed charge voltage. this usually indicate discharged battery. When battery charge level gets closer to 100% (above 90%), charge voltage drops to conditional, usually slightly above 13.0V On my 10 year old original battery I never saw conditional charge voltage (car was not able to charge dying battery) With new battery, charge voltage starts at 14.6V and drops to under 14.0V within 10-20minutes of driving. Find the date code on the battery to see how old it is. If it is over 5 years old, the battery is worn out and needs replacement.
These cars hate weak batteries. |
