What is dakota leather?

ive seen some guys on here saying they have dakota leather. What is this? I know this is a total newb question but just wanted to know what the difference is?

It's the leather seats that comes with the premium package. The regular seats are leatherette which is like a fake plastic leather material.

Dakota leather is the real leather used in the 3 series. The M3 gets novillo

+1, but I prefer it to the butter soft stuff in my Lexus - it just doesn't look like leather and is much easier to damage. The leather in my last few 3 series cars has worn like iron, hard to damage, looks great years later (at least in the E46 and before) we will see how this stuff lasts - 2.5 years and still looks like new in mine though!

not to mention the lexus seats have so much more cushion and is perfectly contoured to the back!

Dakota is the name for the type/quality of the leather interior in many BMWs.
