No problem for a wallpaper when I am finished.

Didn't have so much time this weekend ...

But worked on a scene setup. Lots of scene lighting/exposure setting up. Lots of fine tweaking of geometry.

Also started to create the windows. Started the lights - still got the main headlamp beam corona to add, and indicator. The wheels have some vented discs and muckle big Brembos.

Did a test render at high res size to check things. I can see quite a few wee things that need addressed but thought I would post this. Don't normally post at this resolution ...

Damn that looks realistic!

I took a couple of shots of "Pooh's" wheels square on for you at the weekend so will have to get them uploaded tonight. I've also got a few detail shots of things like the side vents that I'll dig out.

Thanks a lot !

You can never have too many reference pics. I have yet to build the lower grill. Your pic of that is the best one I have seen yet. Also helpful to see the brakes and hubs.

I've spotted a big technical error in my scene setup - nothing to do with geometry, just a little shader/masking/enviroment setup glitch ... will be even more realistic now in a subtle improvement rather than a whizz-bang way. Might not be noticed by any else but me. But now sorted

Noticed that, but it is actually a little anomaly in the reflection image. It's only a matter of time before it got one.

Thanks, but should be OK for now.

Do any of you guys have wide-angle lenses ?

Mmm ... I asked as if you guys have better lenses than me, you could help me capture a location to place the model in. Warning : geeky stuff lies ahead ...

I presently build up some of my images using a standard back plate - and a chrome ball (or HDRI 360 environment). But the chrome ball I use is not perfectly smooth so the scratches that catch the light are mimicked in the car paint - see pic below. So ... a better approach would be to take a super wide angle photo from the place of the car in the original back plate photo looking back out to where the camera was.

To get the best results I take a multiple range of F-stops and create a real HDRI for the backplate and environment. I have a 400D but can't find a way to program a macro to do this (normal bracketing only covers 3 exposures). Is this possible with external control ? It is a bit fiddly doing it manually while it is on a tripod.

Just thought if anybody has a near 180 degree fisheye I could give this idea a test. This doesn't have to be a perfect outdoor shot. Interior / underground / night shots also work well and have more consistent light conditions when capturing but still offer interesting dynamic ranges.

For an example : these guys use an expensive spheron HDRI camera ( ~15k $ http://www.spheron.com/en/intruvisio...rocam-hdr.html ) to create a set of backplates and HDRIs ( http://www.hdri-locations.com/index.php ). But you can see the end results you can achieve.

A good environment, as in real photography, can really lift the model.

Tony, please can we have a night shoot down at Canary Wharf sometime? I would love to get some shots of my car with the skyscrapers behind. Do you know any good locations?

A back plate at night as a real HDRI/EXR (not the pseudo LDR Photoshop outputs that the magazines explain) would be fantastic - or as a set of exposures that I can meld myself. To use it to the best effect I would really need a chrome ball/180 degree view for the realistic reflections. That is the real killer part - get that and it will look superb.

Taking photos of the real thing at the same time would give me some great references for the light and a feel for the surroundings.

Sure mate - lots of good locations. Can even use the millenium dome as a background if we time it right.

After our 'Ring trip one weekend?

Explain the chrome ball / 180 degree view bit... I can take multiple exposures at let's say a 9 frame bracket around ideal, and 360 degrees round horizontally, then stitch the horizontal frames together at each exposure level... that would then give a 360 degree panoramic frame at 9 different exposures... is that what you mean ??
