I've seen a few on Autotrader but the first enquiry said £20k trade in if my car is in good condition! So will need to do some work to sell privately! |

i traded my 335d touring in march 45k on the clock and got 23k against an x5 m sport
very slow obviously compared but handles much better (suprisingly) on 19's full roof a must and of course a trip to evolve, i just re used my switch with a different map and instantly got 8-9 more mpg and i only use asda fuel as i do 500 miles plus a week also black grills from dealer make it look great

I think the current X5 shape looks OK as an SE as long as it has the nice wheels - e.g....
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1855481.htm ...the car above also has the dynamic pack. I like the M Sport too - it looks particularly good in black - but IMO it is not the "no brainer" better looking car as is the case with most of the rest of the BMW range. I had 3 of the old shape X5, all Sport versions as the old SE version usually looked pretty pants. With its 19" sport wheels it was pretty ropey in the snow though - I used them in the austrian alps regularly every winter to go snowboarding, and to be honest the 4wd didn't do as much as I'd hoped to mitigate the marginal snow grip from the low profile summer tyres. I'm considering an X5 next - mainly as you can get them with 7 seats, which may prove useful for us in the near future. A great way to get about - only downside is that a 5er touring makes more sense in nearly every respect bar the 4wd & 7 seats (handling, mpg, cost, etc.). |

My dads just ordered a 40d SE with Dynamic Pack, Space Grey with all the kit. I personally prefer the SE with Dynamic pack and with 20" rims and the side running boards it looks a great car and somehow a little bit less aggresive than the M sport model, but still very chunky.
If you see a new one check out the front and back lights. The xenons have gone a bit whiter and the real lights are really great looking and the best yet in the BMW stable. I test drove a 30d M Sport which I thought was superb and I now can really appreciate what the X5 is all about. It has a great driving position and road holding plus performance is great for such a large car. BMW have a real winner in this segment of the market.

I got the X5 brochure from dealer today.
The whole SE with Dynamic v M Sport thing is now clearer. Also i had a go of the 8 speed and it's much better, but a big oversight in my opinion is that none of the X5/6's get the paddles apart from the M versions. I always like the idea of flicking in the right gear why keeping hands on the wheel. Weird omission if you ask me. Maybe most X drivers just sit in Auto and never change it. Also like the Hill start button so that it doesn't creep in first etc. Gonna work out the options i want etc. Was advised to sell my car privately. Need to get my plate on retention ASAP |

I am sure paddles can be retrofitted.

I'm sure you're set on an X5 (and I wouldn't blame you) but the new X3 is out in November and looks quite nice; basically a baby X5 - if you don't need the extra room...

Just been looking at SE with dynamic v M-Sport. Trying to figure out what options. Currently Sunroof 20" (although the SE gets far better looking ones) Sun pro glass Shadowline Media Pack Seat heating front Folding mirrors Reversing assist cam with top view! Would like: HUD but £1000 Comfort Access but £750 Active Cruise but £1150 Side View Camera but not sure how practical they would be even though price isn't too stupid at £315 Titanium with Bamboo interior Although Space Gray and Black keep calling my name, but its going to be a daily driver, so dirt, scratches, marks etc will show up least on Titanium. |

Looks like you're ticking all the important boxes. Out of your extras list I think they only one that might tempt me is HUD (that's the hard-drive right??) but then again, at £1,000, seems a lot when an ipod could suffice or am I doing the system an injustice???

Makes sense now Knew I wasn't quite right; the hard-drive is HDD isn't it.
Yeah, gotta stick a cross in that box, 'one' of the things I remember most about my M5 test-drive (but £1k is a lot).
