6FL vs Dealer iPod Option

What are the advantages and disadvantages between the two, and is one clearly better than the other? This is assuming with iDrive, but feel free to answer w/o iDrive as well.

6FL is FAR superior to the dealer iPod option, ESPECIALLY with iDrive. It's one thing that almost EVERY person regrets not getting. It's way more than worth it.

I found my car on the lot and it's one of the few things it didn't come with. Sucks not having it especially with iDrive

How is it FAR superior?

I was under the impression that if you go with the dealer installed option the only difference is that it is mounted in the glovebox vs the arm rest (and its a lil cord instead of a nice looking jack hidden in the armrest)

Function wise with the iDrive should be the same? You should still be able to pick your tracks/playlists just like the 6FL...

It's a little bit better integrated in the 6FL. Where in the 6FL you get to choose between 'Playlists' 'Songs' 'Artists' and 'Genres', in the dealer option you get 'Disc 1' 'Disc 2' 'Disc 3' etc..., it's just clearer with 6FL.

That's the only difference I know of. That said, I've only toyed with 6FL and have never used the dealer option. There might be more differences.

Is there any input or scroll lag with either option? Has iDrive or 6FL been improved in any way in the new 08MY? Thanks again for all the responses so far.

The scroll lag has been improved a great deal with the latest idrive firmware. Its no ipod but it does a decent job.

and most likely never will be given that only a fairly small run of cars missed out
