Hey all, I picked up my E90 about a month ago and was not happy with the halogen lights output so I did an HID projector retrofit and thought I would share the outcome.

I installed the new Morimoto D2S 4.0 projectors and finished it off with an Iris shroud. I wanted a true OEM look and I think these shrouds really helped pull it off.



By using the Hyluxtek 35w ballasts I do not have any bulb out warnings.











And finally a shot of the light output. I went with 5500k Morimoto bulbs and I think they look great!

Great job and it looks very OEM.

That's better output than the OEM xenons.

Looks great! Any more details on your installation? I heard the OEM light housing is really hard to separate. How did you mount the projector?

Thanks! The installation is fairly simple when using the Morimoto D2S or H1 projectors as they use a threaded shaft which goes through the existing bulb hole. You simply enlarge the opening if using the D2S projectors.

As far as the lens separation goes it can be tricky, the most difficult part is the surround piece that resides inside the lens. When separating the lens from the housing the surround is attached to the housing in the permaseal, but it sits snug into the lens as well. It feels like things are going to crack and break when separating. Once you have done it though it is not so bad to do again.

Do you have the cage to carry the adaptive headlight and still able to use the adaptive function or the car does not have the AHL function. Something like this picture

No, this was just a simple HID projector installation.

Nice, nice. I've used the Morimoto H1 on another car before and mounting those were pretty easy as you said. What made you choose the D2S over the H1 version? As for the headlight housing, did you do 20 degrees for X amount of minutes.

Using D2S gives a lot more options for bulbs such as running the OE bulbs or the newer upgrades (CBI, CBH, etc) whereas the H1 limits you.

I think I understand every ordering choice on the TRS website except the harness portion. Which harness did you buy, canbus H7 or HD Relay H7? Thanks!

Using the Hylux ballast will prevent you from having to use any kind of wire harness. The Hylux ballasts are a direct plug in for the E90's with no errors.

I baked them for a nice golden brown crust

Just playing but I did bake them, 240* for 20 minutes. It took 2 heat cycles to get them apart.

I have my stock lights rotting in my shed, maybe I'll buy myself an early xmas gift and give this a shot. My headlights are pretty decent, but I need a new project to keep my brain busy lol

Why no angel eyes? And you also opted to keep the orange lenses, any particular reason?

I say to give it a shot. The parts run approx $400 and will take the better part of a weekend to complete. As far as the AE's go it because I didn't have any on hand. I think I will add some LED ones from either Diode Dynamics or Morimoto. The orange lenses I left to keep the lights OEM appearance.
