You cannot update cic by entering vin.
That service is to update firmware on combox.
CIC can only be updated via dealer, autologic specialist or coder with icom.

I wasn't talking about CIC I was generically talking about bmw.com/updates. And the answer to my question is to use the VIN listed in this post

http://www.autoevolution.com/news/di...ion-54817.html

"If you have a retrofited CIC, use this VIN#: E797432"

PS: updating option 1 to 2013/14 gives you 7 digit postcode search. IF it does not then your firmware is old.
updating option 2 has not effect on CIC itself. It is to do with phone compatibility.
I have a 2009 business edition cic and would like to update to the postcode search. Can you help please.

How to confirm if my firmware is already updated?

Hi Sam-Makkan or anyone else who can help

I wish to update the maps in my CIC (2008 Professional currently), but my E93 is circa September 2009 I believe from what I have read elsewhere a map update will not be possible until I get my CIC firmware updated.

Is there any way to confirm if my firmware is already updated?
Is my only option for a Firmware update a trip to a dealer?

Thanks in advance all help and advice.

See above. If you don't have the little check in the circle then you can't update via USB without updating CIC. You can use the 3x DVDS however which I guess are downloadable via torrent. Then just buy a new FSC code.

If you want to update your CIC then you'll need an ICOM A and B and a battery power supply. To update CIC firmware takes around 1.5hrs in this fashion.

Based on manufacture date am i right i have to use dvd rather than usb and does anyone know if my firmware will give 7 digit postcode access. If not guess will have to look at firmware update? Options?
