Just bought an 09 E90 330D - first ever BWM!

Hey guys!

Got signed up on here last night after i bought my first BMW on Thursday!

I bought an 09 330D 4dr in red (SE trim)

Anything i should know to look out for on these cars??

It has a full main dealer service history and was done 3k miles ago. Currently the car has 75K miles on the clock.

Its got quite good spec, got the CIC iDrive (bluetooth, nav, hdd etc..)

First question on this forum - How can i check/update the firmware/software (not the maps) on the iDrive? im thinking it probably hasn't ever been done!

Kinda wanted to do this myself instead of going to a dealer for it

Pics below:

Nice car, congrats! I don't think we got the 330D over here (Canada), at least I've never seen one. Why did you say 5dr? Are you counting the trunk er.. boot? Normally a 5dr would be a wagon, I mean estate (you are in the uk aren't you).

It is possible to update yourself, but it requires a special cable, and the software setup is a bit of a pain. Apparently it can take quite a while as well over the odb port. Plus there is the risk of bricking something. Might be better to take it to the dealer, but if you want more info check out the coding section.

Have fun

Beautiful colour! We don't have E90's in that beautiful red here in Canada...

Thanks for the info Stewey, I should have put 4dr! Still got my hatchback hat on, previous car was a 58 Vauxhall Vectra 1.9cdti

It's the first one I saw in this colour over in the UK as well! Went to view and had to buy, such a nice car!

Looking good, and you will probably double the fuel mileage from the gas version! Enjoy.

I got all the updates FOC by dealer, but according to them only because car "called for updates" otherwise there would be a charge. So speak to your nearest dealer. Or as the other responder said, see if there is something you can do yourself. You mention maps, you will need firmware update if you update maps and want the 7 digit postcode search, assuming you don't already have it. I have a 09 btw, and my steering wheel is on the 'wrong side' too

It's the correct side really but I'm new to the forum, don't want to offend people I've had a look around on here and not really finding much about updating mine... I'll give my local dealer a call tomorrow and see what they say then!

Doesn't have full postcode search at the mo... Is this something I should expect to get foc even though it's not in dealer warranty anymore?
