with the e90 i can confirm also that when you shift into "DS" mode, it only displays "D"...you can however do all the steptronic shifting as well as gear numbers showing up...there is something in the blue connector (left) that configures the "DS" mode

I can get same knob/boot you just bought for $129 shipped to me - after talking with schulrog about what else I would need - unfortunately, even though you have the knob, it's still not PnP even if you did buy the special harness from schulrog

Shift knob still needs to be modded - which means now you have to send it in to schulrog, have the mods done, buy the harness, install

By that time might as well just have got in on the GB...

I just figured it wasn't worth all the trouble. If you know what he mods with regards to the shifter + know how to make your own harness then you're set
with out trying to destroy the GB, i have done this mod before with working results with everything PNP on the m3 dct shift knob. I sold that and opted for this since the M3DCT knob had the +- indicators on the right side of D instead of the left where that mode really is. Personally i like the look of the DCT knob over the MDCT. I dont know what the circuit board is used for in this GB, but the harness i made for use on the MDCT knob was simply there to intercept signal wires from power, RND/DS, etc. If you are not electrically inclined then this GB is probably your best bet. But following the DIY for the MDCT along with the pin number which corresponds to the selector lights on the DCT knob should be pretty straight forward. I too will have to try it out and see what difference there is on the DCT vs the MDCT which i hope is the same.

This is where the tricky part comes in the DCT knob is completely different from the MDCT with the +/- that illuminates. the circuitry is different and just intercepting a signal and re-routing it doesn't work anymore unfortunately... i've been selling the M SMG shifter for quite a while now and know how it works. I can tell you that the two are nothing alike

Kriscrafty,

Here are the pics of my leather boot base, it is slightly different for LHD but should be easy to change the plastic clip part as it's just glued on.

Guys, price of my shifter & boot has dropped due to the fact that the leather boot is not pnp for you LHD folks.

the boot should be the same size... so removing the plastic clip part and glueing it to a LHD version should be easy.

just curious if the dct base plate fits on non dct trim and if the opening is large enough to accommodate the steptronic shift throws from park to drive with out hitting anything? thanks

Have you confirmed that the DCT shift boot that you have pictured fits correctly in a factory non-DCT shift base (also shown in your pic)?

1QuickWS6,

Yes the boot fits correctly if you cut the stalk, but for LHD, you would need to replace the plastic base of the leather boot for your current one.

tough to say.. this is not an easy endeavor and rather intense regarding all the components that go into it but i'm hoping to get something together soon.

right now i only have 1 baseplate that i need when the prototype is complete for testing.

When I have everything working and I do the batch order for all the members i can order you an extra baseplate as well.
