Is it possible to use Cobb ATR to tune a stage 1 file for E85?
Dumb idea?
I know their E30 maps are designed for stage 2+ hardware, but I was thinking, of someone has stage 1 hardware but wants to run E85, would it be possible to do so by adjusting the fuel scalar on a stage 1 map in AccessTuner Race to the E30 blend for example (and log too of course to make sure all is good)? . . |

Yeah, I guess there's more to it than just taking the stage 1 maps and changing the fuel scalar... I wouldn't get any more power without changing some other things too.
I had understood (correctly?) that to make an E50 map for stage 2+ hardware for example, you take the Cobb E30 (2+ by definition) map as a base, and just adjust the fuel scalar, and you end up with an E50 map that produces more power than the E30 map. Or is that wrong, and you have to tweak other tables too before getting more power? |

Unless ignition is no good as a result of fuel, simply adding in more scalar headroom isn't going to net you any inherent power gains.
What it would allow you to do is set the table for more aggressive tweaks to the PID, timing, VANOS, etc etc tables. So adjust the scalar to suit whatever volume of ethanol you'd like to run (set it on the stronger side IMO), then go from there. Just be careful when messing with the main timing table. And remember that more advance does not automatically = more power.

@135Pats - Are you referring to me just adjusting the fuel scalar on a stage 1 map? I've given up on that idea for now, as I'd have to start tweaking other tables too, which I don't want to deal with right now.
But on my other N54 car, I'm running stage 2+ maps on it, and just got the E30 maps from Cobb. Are you saying if I want to run E50 maps on that car, it's not enough to just adjust the fuel scalar on Cobb's E30 maps to get more power, and I'd have to adjust other things too? |

What i'm saying is that simply adjusting the fuel scalar isn't going to net you any power - unless there was a significant fuel issue beforehand that was rectified by a stronger or weaker scalar.
OTS E30 tables were scaled by Cobb for E30, not E50 or E60. You can bump up the scalar to account for more ethanol, but you aren't going to see power gains just from that. Not necessarily saying it would require massive changes.
