Which downloads support 4 cylinder

Which downloads support 4 cylinder Euro Cars both diesel and gas?
Does the Bimmergeeks download support these out of the box.
Both for standard tools and ista d?

I don't think it does. I need to spend some time and figure out how to get my setup to recognise my partners N47

Is there a set of datens or files that can be added to cover these?

I think I tried these steps to no avail, but I probably did something wrong. It's been a while since I tried it!

So you are talking about the daten that comes seperate from
the install for Standard Tools and Ista D ?
So does that mean you defiantly have to apply the daten to get the
4 cylinder files and does it contain all the variants .
Because people come on here asking about that all the time
and it seems there are quite a few 4 cylinder types World Wide.
Most of here only see the gas 6 cylinders.

Perhaps my Concept is wrong, but E89 Datens should contain ALL E90 Engine MODULE Variants.
Whether your engine is N55, N54, N53, N52, N51, N46, N45, Diesel, etc.
You simply have to select the DME/DDE which is correct for YOUR vehicle.
For my 328xi with N52KP engine, I select MSV80 for N52KP and I connect to DME.
The same is true for other Modules of which there are different Variants.
Here is the screen that appears on my INPA version after Selecting E90 > Engine:

ctuna you have to look at INPA as a set of plugins with sub-plugins and functions for each sub-plugin. This can be edited indeed, but it it's a different story to just be able to access a specific PRG file and to read/write/activate values with it.

For example: let's say you want to connect to an N47 DDE to carry CAS-DDE EWS alignment. You will have to first write a new value in INPA to point INPA to the correct file (here lies the most known illusion that you have the full spdaten for E89 and still you don't see it in INPA). 2nd you will have to create a sub-plugin, which INPA usually names it as "Activate". 3rd you will have to create the 2 functions that will start the alignment.

So the spdaten will help you, but that is like 1% of the job. There are some modified INPAs with N47 and N57 and some other more modules configured, I know I have met them on some point. But I have realized that all that INPA can do can be done with tool32 and ISTA. This is why I have asked you what are you trying to acomplish.

As expected, no N47 in that screen shot, @gbalthrop

Edit: Or is that your point? (That the daten files should contain all models, but don't)

I am aware that the downloads are partial but how partial is the
question. If you notice when Inpa comes up you can even select
Minis's and every 3 series back to e36 I believe. Probably no files
behind those selections .My guess is since
the bimmergeeks link is only the current E9x 3 series gas cars but it's clear that all models are not covered my guess is only the 6 cylinder gas
car's are covered. When the Euro guys drop in here they befuddled
because things may not work for them .
It would be nice if we could at least tell them what the download
supports.

I know some people on here are familiar with this an tell people to
go hunting for this and that .ipo and other file types. Anybody got
it down to what the basic download covers.

The POINT is that you connect to a CONTROL MODULE, NOT an engine. Look at the number of Control Modules (DME's & DDE's -- YES ctuna, diesels use DDE's ;-) I was NOT replying to your query regarding the N47 (about which I know NOTHING except what is contained in this Wikipedia article):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_N47

The INPA installation I have is old -- prior to the BimmerGeeks Download which they link on their site. My understanding is that the N47 is a relatively new engine, introduced in the E9x models in 2008 as a successor to the M47 (which IS listed in the ScreenPrint I attached ;-). Of course the B47 which succeeded the N47 is NOT in that ScreenPrint either. It MAY be that the N47 engine uses the same DDE as the M47 or another Diesel DDE listed on the screen I attached. The first step is to connect to the Chassis (in my case E9x) and then select the MODULE such as DME or DDE you want to connect to. Keep in mind that the E9x also uses the N51 engine in SULEV models, particularly in California, US, but there is NO N51 engine choice in the Right Listbox I posted. Anyone with an N51 SULEV E9x SHOULD know that they have the SAME MSV80 DME as is used by the N52KP engined cars.

In What Chassis is the N47 you are trying to connect to? Can you Connect to that Chassis at all with INPA? If so, can you use Functional Jobs > F2 Identification to determine WHAT is the Variant/ SGBD of the DDE? (4th column in DDE Row of data). When you know what DDE you need to connect to, then you simply find that DDE (e.g. DDE 6.0) in the List and click on that, or highlight & press Enter.

If the question is changed to "how long after a new Engine MODULE (or any other Module) is incorporated in a particular chassis by BMW, BEFORE Datens become available on the Web which include (a) that specific ENGINE (N47) in the Label in the Right-hand Listbox, or (b) Datens for that specific DME/DDE, my answer is: I have NO idea. However you see on the Screen I attached a specific label for "MEVD 17.2 for N55 Engine", and that engine was NOT produced until 2009. So it would be reasonable to ASSume that if the N47 was used in the E9x chassis in 2008, that one of the DDE Variants listed, such as the DDE 6.0 was used for that engine. JUUUST a SWAG -- need to KNOW the DDE Variant actually used.

If you have INPA, can you connect to the N47-engined vehicle at all? Can you use Functional Jobs > F2 Identification to see a screen of ~ 20 control modules? Is DDE SGBD/Variant provided on that screen? Does the "Engine" list of DME/DDE include that DDE? If you select that DDE & try to connect with it, what do you get?

Please let us know what you find,
George

Potato/potAto... N47 runs DDE7...either way, it's not on the list. Same story, I think, for the N57.

The N47 engine is very commonly used on the e8x 1 series (118/120/123d) and e9x 3 series (318/320d). Worth noting that the e9x 320d is by far the most common e9x car in the UK. The N47 appeared in 2008, like you mention, so I don't think it's a question of time until it appears in INPA (12y and still waiting...).

I can connect to the chassis, yes, but not to the DDE. I can't remember what's visible/available exactly... I'll find out later, or tomorrow

people are asking for daten's in the 60's now it looks like those
would be all inclusive. (All motor types supported)
Functional Jobs in Inpa may read the motor type no matter what it
is as the data comes from the engine module.
I don't think that it will mean that all the files you need to run diags
and do updating and coding for that engine will be in the there though.
This is just a curiosity question on my part as I am in the US with N52 .
However we keep getting Euro and Rest of the World questions here
and it would be nice to be able to point people in the right direction if
they have 4 cylinders and diesels.

So, to get access to other ecu files in INPA do this:

For E90:

Edit the E90.ENG or E90.GER file in \EC-APPS\INPA\CFGDAT and add this one line in this section:

[ROOT_MOTOR]
DESCRIPTION=Engine
ENTRY= DDE7N47,DDE 7 for N47 / N47,

Where DDE7N47 is the IPO file with the same name that you must have in \EC-APPS\INPA\SGDAT e.g.: DDE7N47.IPO

You can also add the N57 files as well or any other engine/or other group IPO files in the same way.

E.g.: for N57:

ENTRY= DDE72N57,DDE 7.2 for N57 / N57,
ENTRY= DDE73N57,DDE 7.3 for N57 / N57,

make sure DDE72N57.ipo and DDE73N57.ipo files are present in \EC-APPS\INPA\SGDAT

Good luck!

If someone runs across a particular DME/module that's missing from the Functional Jobs menu, let me know. Then, at least it can be included in my install that's posted here: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1204192.

Then, I would just need someone with that particular DME to test the functionality.

OK, just got this working today. Took a lot of scrolling through translated german, polish and russian forums, but I finally found the files required to get my partner's 118D DDE talking to INPA. I had a previous version of the TGS INPA installed initially, and yesterday reinstalled to the latest version per the above thread, but still no dice...

The ECU in question calls itself a 'D70N47B0'. This is NOT covered by any of the following files:
Code:
DE7N47.IPO
DDE7UDS.IPO
DDE73KWP.IPO
N47T.IPO
N47TUDS.IPO
It IS covered by DDE7XN47_ALL.IPO. Finding a source for these files wasn't too hard once I knew what I was looking for:
https://yadi.sk/d/qpk9018M3ajg53
The file is a .rar type which is a native WinRAR archive, also openable with 7zip, and probably many others.
Linked from:
https://www.drive2.com/l/510743218262900994/ (Russian; use translate if needed)
Also from my Google drive:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1058...ew?usp=sharing

For those who don't know how:
Extract/copy DDE7XN47_ALL.IPO and DDE7XN47_ALL.INI from the above download link to your C:\EC-APPS\INPA\SGDAT folder.
Open E90.ENG, E90.GER, E87.ENG and E87.GER (or any of those files that you have available) in C:\EC-APPS\INPA\CFGDAT using a text editor (notepad), and add the following line somewhere under the '[ROOT_MOTOR]
DESCRIPTION=Engine' header lines:
Code:
ENTRY= DDE7XN47_ALL,DDE 7.X FOR ALL N47,
Be sure that the line is formatted correctly; no extra spaces, punctuation, etc. Don't delete any existing lines - there's no need to. Save the file(s) after editing.
That's it; open INPA, F2 or F3 to select your chassis (corresponding to the E90 or E87 files you edited above), Engine, and then you will see 'DDE 7.X FOR ALL N47' as an available option. Open (double click or select and enter) that option, ignore/OK any warnings about potential malfunctions due to version (language) mismatch, etc, and you're in!

Joe, I'll PM you the file too, so you can add it to your build. Thanks for maintaining that! EDIT: Didn't realise you can't attach files to PMs... Oh well, PM'd anyhow
