330d engine resonance through drivers seat

Hi all,

New to this forum so this is my first post.....

Bought a Bmw 330d m sport (e92) a few weeks ago, soon after, noticed when at idle there is a sort of resonance transmitted through the drivers seat from the engine/Gbox, it sort of feels like a massage seat! Every time it’s gone to Bmw it’s not that noticeable, but after a long drive and once stopped at traffic lights you can feel it. It’s very slightly better when you put it from D to N.

There are no fault codes and it idles at 680rpm (according to mycarly), when revs are raised slightly to 700ish it’s feels less obvious.

I suppose I just want to know if this is normal or has anyone else had the issue, if so what was the solution......thanks

What mileage is it on? Age? It could be the engine/gearbox mounts. The engine mounts are hydraulically controlled so could even be a line which is leaking or something.

It’s a 2011 on 53000 miles, the Mounts have been inspected and are ok supposedly, I don’t think they plugged it in to see the actual vaccum levels though, but the dealer said it would be doubtful if they are at fault. I will be taking it back in again but it seems worse after a long journey (when car is hot), but fine when it goes to dealer, makes me look stupid!

I’m assuming it’s not common to have a resonance on the e92?

Strangely my E90 has a similar thing. Idle I believe is 650-700 ish but I feel I vibration on the drivers seat and passenger seat when empty, however if I touch the centre console area there is no vibration.

I do have the same issue too. But haven't bothered to carry out any fault finding. The mounts are what control this vibration though. Another thing that has just come to mind is the vibration damper wheel thingy on the front of the engine block?? Could this have anything to do with it?

And apologies, I said hydraulically controlled but you are right in that they are pneumatically controlled!

If I feel the door cards you can feel them resonating too, I did read about that vibration damper, but from looking at YouTube clips it looks like it sort of starts/stops spinning when running?, mine appears to continually spin.....

Bmw did change the EGR valve, as it had a electrical fault but made no difference to the resonance.

I even tried some BP ultimate fuel to see if it’s fuel related ....... but still there.

Had the car in at BMW for a week and they have been unable to identify the cause for the resonance, only if it gets worse will they take another look.

Rather frustrated to be honest, they only way it seems to be reduced to a point where it’s not noticeable is if the rpm is raised a touch, but they are reluctant to do it. On mine if I put the air con on the rpm stays exactly the same so can’t just switch it on to raise rpm

I’m assuming a specialist could raise the rpm , any ideas how long it would take and thus cost??
