"Engine malfunction, reduced power"

I got his warning on my 2010 335xi, but the thing is it goes away when I turn my car off and then it will show up again if I speed. Anyone know what the problem is? Its really bothering me and I cant get it fixed for like 3 weeks so id like to know what im dealing with.

That's the standard limp mode message, lots of different problems can cause this so we'd need more information to help diagnose. Do you have any kind of code scanner? If not, try going to Autozone, O'Reilly, etc. Most of those chain auto parts stores will scan check engine codes for you. If you get the code and post here we can give you suggestions.

I've had the same thing happen a couple times recently. This is the code I just received: 2C57 Reduced power mode/ boost disabled.

Sorry, not trying to hijack your thread

if t happens only when "speeding" meaning the car is under load, you probably, more than likely, have a misfire occurring. Mileage on vehicle? Mods? Last time plugs/coils were changed?

like mentioned before it could be a number of other things like a failing fuel pump, vanos solenoids, boost solenoids, and the list goes on..... need a little bit more infor however.

I had the same problem on my 535XI. Changed the plugs and coils, had it walnut blasted and then I had to replace the fuel injectors. That fixed it.

I just had this warning this week. You need to use a BMW scanner to read the code. Either BavTechnic tool or you can use MHD app.

Anyhow, my problem was the intake vanos solenoid. Its about $100.

If the car still drives fine and doesn't come back again, it's probably the vanos solenoids. Mine hasn't come back again after 2 days. Real strange. I've got the part on order but now I'm wondering if I'll even install it. $95. Oh well, might as well. I change my oil religiously at 5k miles.

i would, I mean those things are known to go bad. and it is like a 15 min job as long as you don't drop the fastening bolt in the front of the engine bay

OP how many miles?

Just fixed a situation like this on my 335. Ended up being bad vacuum line behind oil filter housing. Easy check for me was disconnect the coupling and blew into the tube...found the leak. Of course it could be any number of things on your car.

You may have a boost leak. check all lines, check diverters, charge pipe. give the turbo waste gate rod a little wiggle. clanking is BAD and indicates the waste gate isn't sealing properly.

so according to the dealer ship, I had only 5 cylinders working instead of 6, also I had an oil leak in my oil filter housing gasket. Its all fixed up now thankfully. Little scared to speed haha I really dont want anymore problems. I know im going to but i try not to get close to redline haha.
