Transmission slipping when cold
Very recently, my transmission did a little slip going from second to third under relatively light load, about 2 minutes after starting the car. Thought it was an oddity, but it has done it a few times since. I've also noticed a more harsh 2-3 shift when first starting lately. All issues go away completely when the car warms up.
Any advise on where to start? 85k miles, haven't changed the transmission fluid yet. No alphabet. I'll be doing the fluid change as I address this issue.

Need a fluid and filter change.....pretty easy job. The small rubber tubes have shrunk on yours my buddy's was doing the same thing. He actually just used DS mode most mornings until it warmed up prior to changing filter and fluid. Just remember to put the shift linkage back in the slot upon reassembly, we learned that lesson the hard way...lol.

well. 1.it could also be low boost that u might not even detect (small hole in hose) that will result in 10-20% power reduction, and tranny won't have enough torque to stay on a gear.
2. u live in cold climate and it is pretty normal because it is told by ECU to restrict power while the engine is cold, so also tranny behaves differently, resembling the point 1. 3.lack of fluid in tranny, but since u mention that tranny drives fine when warm, I would give this small percentage, but still very possible |

It's a very well known issue with this family of transmissions.
Nothing will cure it. At best it can be cleared and delayed for a few days/weeks until it comes back. It's not BMW's fault but ZF's actually. They out out a dud. GM and Ford copied the design and they also have the same issue. Resetting the tranny with your Carly app is the most effective way to deal with. Repeatedly. Otherwise a full rebuild, not a repair using OEM parts. There is a company out there making parts for it, valve body and other things to cure the problem. Not worth it in my opinion. You can rev it up a little more than usual and the it won't be so obvious. Yes it will tend to surge above 2000 RPM when the engine is cold but the shift won't be as harsh. In slow traffic it's very annoying if you can't trick it with your right foot. |

I too have this issue and did so on my 1 series also.
I am at 120k miles now on the 335d and completed Filter / Fluid change at 90k and its getting annoying at times the 2-3 shift mostly because it makes me cringe if it drops hard into third. I think it has something to do with it often not shifting down into 1st gear at a stop and starting from 2nd like 1st and dropping from 2-3rd like a 1-2nd shift. I shift manually into third around 1800 rpm and it seems to be the best shift point.
